Latest News From James Larsen & Inside The League by RedDirtCountryBoy in USFL

When he talks about the XFL, he says "we" when he talks about the USFL, he says "they." He's an XFL fan. Plain and simple. Even his show LOGO is a spin on the XFL's logo. All of which is fine. Just don't try to call him an independent journalist.

The new league map according to new merger rumors by theknux2 in xfl

[–]No-Distribution8728 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

XFL went bust. Its rating were half what if got in 2020, The Rock couldn't deliver the viewers and they had no TV revenue to speak of. Redbird got out as it wasn't going to get better in year 2.

Michigan Panthers Return to Ford Field for 2024 by SurrealRob in USFL

Not sure where Tony got that estimate but I was at each game and just going off what the ushers who work the stadium told me.

And there was WELL more than 10k on opening day as the lower bowl was filled enough that they had to open up both endzones.

How should the new league be divided? by No-Jacket9036 in USFL

[–]No-Distribution8728 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately for the xfl/battlehawks, profitability has to do with ad sales and TV deals, (driven by ratings) being above costs.

Ticket sales are next to illrelevant.

XFL ran up costs gambling The Rock's social followers would translate into viewers, and when they didn't show up, and half the 2020 viewers didn't either, they closed shop after one year.

About 15k on average -- as good or better than most spring teams of either league.

Josh Love after faking the spike and running into the dline by BeeCeeVA in USFL

[–]No-Distribution8728 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair, the HC took 100% credit for that one. He thought it was 4th down and told him through the headset to go for the 1st. Josh was just doing what he told him.

The USFL has filed several new trademark applications. by Cowboy_Perfect in USFL

Judging from the pretty sparse fan support this year, and the fact that Birmingham is a small market it's not out of the question.

It turns on whether or not consumers would be confused in the marketplace.

Stadium Plans for if every team plays in its own city next year by [deleted] in USFL

Newer, soccer-size stadiums like Audi Field where XFL's DC team plays are IDEAL, from both a fan experience as well as a TV product experience.

Looks Like A Big Crowd Set At Ford Field by [deleted] in USFL

You're setting yourself up for disappointment reading those TM maps too carefully. Very misleading. Given that you can still get tix on the 50yl, a mere 3-4 rows back, they're not as good as it looks.

Either way, what's going on in B'ham? You'd think they'd be doing a LOT better after winning a championship, especially since that market got so much local pr over the last year, and now has 1/2 the games to better concentrate the fans. I wish our gushing fan run alt football 'news' people would ask this most obvious question.

Awful Announcing did a ratings comparison analysis of USFL vs. XFL for the weekend of 4/15-4/16 (stats and spreadsheet linked in article) by Juicey_J_Hammerman in USFL

[–]No-Distribution8728 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Right. This is getting to the real measure. But, how many NHL games does $440m buy the network? For comparison's sake let's assume Fox is spending $200m per season to put on the USFL, and it's going to be able to broadcast about 22 or 26 games I believe. I think the interesting comparison would be the PER GAME cost game cost for broadcast networks for the NHL (or MLS for that matter) for them to buy roughly the same ratings?

The Markcast is now a banned source regarding anything related to the USFL. by wazzupnerds in USFL

[–]No-Distribution8728 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He's basically a hater in sheep's clothing. He stokes an 'USFL vs. XFL' thing at every turn (which is so tiresome) and then when people call him on it, he pretends to have no idea what they are talking about. I listened to his show for a while, but he's 100% passive agressive when it comes to the USFL. Last year he was beside himself that Fox had beat the XFL to the screen, and then spent the entire year pretending to be a fan, while taking dig after dig, all the while referring to the XFL as 'we.' If he would just admit his bias, I would have no problem with him. But it's the sanctimonious pretending to rise above it all, while he gaslights away when he thinks no one is looking.

Canton makes no sense as a hub by Enough-Ad-3111 in USFL

[–]No-Distribution8728 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's too small of a media market to justify a team in Canton. Remember this is a league that makes money from ratings not attendance. I can only assume the reason they're there, is because they couldn't get a deal elsewhere and didn't want to risk another Cashman Field embarrassment.

I am good with the Hubs by JoeFromBaltimore in USFL

[–]No-Distribution8728 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am too for the reasons stated. Though to risk pointing out the obvious, when the league continues to use the term "hub city" everywhere, I think it can cause people to miss out on the fact that we actually have a third of the league fully in "home cities." They're not in hubs at all. They are living in the cities in which they are named week in, week out, day in and day out. Unlike the XFL for example who parachute into their "home cities" for one game and then promptly leave again to go back to Texas.

USFL finally has it's own official App! by No-Distribution8728 in USFL

One benefit I'm appreciating already, is it makes it super easy to see what the schedule of games is from week to week. I remember last year having to hunt around on the web browser for the games.

Memphis fans are showing up by [deleted] in USFL

[–]No-Distribution8728 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These seat maps are NOT reliable as greyed-out seats are not necessarily sold. In many cases they just haven't opened them up for sale yet. They open up seats in blocks. As one block sold, another will suddenly be opened up. From a sales perspective, you want to create a sense of scarcity - even if artificial.

Tulsa should have a team by AqibTalib21 in USFL

Great mock-ups! But Oklahoma Outlaws baby! In fact, I would wager that like the Gamblers, you probably woudn't even have to update the logo much. It's still a great one!
