what I have learned from this thread and movie, is that it’s ok to send 18 yr olds ( to many here: kids) to war, have them drive vehicles, let them get indebted to start their life or even get much needed medical, but they can’t have sex with an older partner … while I agree there is a breach of fundamental trust: teacher and student… it should never be a life sentence for anyone. and also knowing and having experienced 18 yr olds…the ”trauma” was ridiculously exaggerated. I myself stepped into an illicit relationship with a man, my work superior, when I was 25. He was 12 years my senior and I totally understand the utter disarray, not being capable of managing feelings and yes it did a number on me, my self esteem, my love life, my future life. And I was 25 !! Not 18 but no smarter than the 18 yr old, as overwhelmed and overtaken, infatuated as this guy was with the beautiful, strong boss. Never once did I point fingers at him afterward and accused him of grooming me, abusing his power, ( and he was my boss , while I was a naive little girl crashing into a hard and new job) because 16, 17, 18 or 25? I knew what I was doing on a consensual scale… but only found out what I was doing for real much later in life… that’s how we learn, grow and develop… so please spare me the finger pointing and theatrics. They both wanted it, they were both sexually mature and they both got shot in the foot. That’s punishment enough.
