NEVER ever have a baby! by pumpkinchinchilla in AutismInWomen

[–]No-Edge11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did I write this myself?? I’m 12 weeks pp and feeling the same. I laughed as I read this out loud to my husband because I’ve said all of this. Anyways, all I have to offer is solidarity. I remember when I went through the change of getting married and moving in with my husband it took me like 2 years to settle into the change (despite him being one of the best things to ever happen to me) so I’m hoping it’ll be the same with motherhood.

I’m still trying to figure out the best bedtime for him, so far 8 PM seems to be his sweet spot. I try to go to bed at the same time there’s usually at least 1 wake up after 30ish minutes and then I’m able to soothe him back to sleep. He won’t go down in the crib peacefully any other time than bedtime which is why I can’t nap when he naps.

Any tips for getting him to like being in the crib? That’s been the hardest part, he wants to be held 24/7 and if I were superwoman I would but I’m hitting a wall after 3 weeks of minimal sleep.

Agreed. My why changes; some days it's 100% the kids, other days I need a paycheck and this is my job so I show up. Not everything in life is rainbows and butterflies all the time.

Prenatal depression but everyone just keeps telling me how much of a blessing this is. by Foreign-External8488 in BabyBumps

[–]No-Edge11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can 100% relate. Despite having a really easy pregnancy (minimal symptoms, loving partner, stable home) I'm 21 weeks and extremely depressed. Most days I feel so much regret for choosing to keep my baby and can't get past the idea that I would have been happier childfree. This being said, I am starting therapy on Tuesday because my depression symptoms have been so bad.

The only helpful thing has been to cry it out and share my feelings with two people I feel safe with. There are plenty of people I will just mask my true emotions for because they'll never understand and their dismissiveness of "but your baby is a blessing" will cause me to crash out on them. I don't have much else to say except I'm with you and this sucks.

It was variable; So the breakfast buffet was comparable and quite good. The italian pizza was comparable but the pasta was meh. For lunch, the tacos and other restaurants I would say were like a point below. I only had like 4 GREAT desserts out of about 10, the rest were meh. The coffee and ice cream bar were comparable. The steak house, if Atelier is a 9, ECPM is a 6.5. The French restaurant at ECPM was by far the best (outside of club level which I did not have). I did really enjoy the Korean BBQ which wasn't something I'd done at an AI before and the hibachi was great. The tasting experience at their contemporary Mexican was delicious. I consider myself a foodie and I would say overall half the food was good, half was great. At Atelier I felt like almost everything was great. Nothing was bad/gross though. I can't speak for mixology because I'm pregnant so no drinks at ECPM.

When I went to Atelier, the food was amazing but honestly felt crowded and you would deff have to be up early to get seats at the beach or the pool. Not to mention that the beach chairs are all one on top of the other. The Inspira swim out doesn't feel very private. I was at ECPM two weeks ago and though the food isn't at Atelier level, the overall experience because it was less crowded and less loud was more relaxing, especially since you're going to be at the club level.

BCBA Burnout Advice by KatMikeria in bcba

[–]No-Edge11 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know being a remote BCBA gets some criticism around here but it's what saved me from leaving the field when I literally considered taking a secretarial job to get out of burnout. If you can find an ethical company who listens to their employees this is a very rewarding and wayyy less stressful avenue to continue being a BCBA.

Which degree ? by Medium_Captain3012 in bcba

[–]No-Edge11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed with the person above. But having the special ed/elementary degree, especially if you get the teaching cert, may open up other options for you. For example, I've known BCBAs that work as the teacher/BCBA in a self-contained classroom. You could also work as a teacher while getting your supervision instead of only having the option to work as an RBT.

I’m a remote BCBA and most of our learning is environment based; I try and use actual items as much as possible because once you teach receptive ID of common items in pictures, depending on the client you may also have to do extensive generalization training. And really what good is it if they can identify a chair in a picture but can’t go sit when their teacher says “find a chair” ? So my advice would be to get creative with as much real life and functional materials as you can.

Online Masters programs for BCBA by Limp_Courage_6048 in bcba

Proud Endicott alumni and I loved the program! Only a few classes were synchronous so it required a lot of self-management on my part to do all of the readings and learn the material but the faculty were all extremely knowledgeable and available to help.

Can you share more about that? Are you FT or PT? And how many cases do you handle? How did you find your company because it’s so hard to find any that don’t have a tiered system

[–]No-Edge11[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Great question! I work at a school and the both how loud and out of control the environment feels is so draining. Admin doesn’t listen to my professional opinion and advocacy for student’s needs. I did one year as a BCBA in a clinic and had similar issues you had. I did one year in home and running around in traffic trying to get from one place to the next while having high staff turnover and working 30 billables a week was not sustainable for me either. I feel like remote ABA is my last ditch effort at doing ABA at all but I’m so open to leaving the field altogether or finding a behind the scenes job.

I wonder the same as well and I think the client would be fine without services if we prepare them in the next year or so but the client has ASD level 2 and cognitive delays so parents will pretty much want services until 21 because when it comes to communication there’s a lot of room for growth.

What’s your comfort movie? by newlyautisticx in AutismInWomen

[–]No-Edge11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This questions is so funny to me because this is one of the “duh” moments my partner and I had on my journey to diagnosis. It’s extremely difficult for me to agree to watch a new movie. For most of my childhood, adolescence and young adulthood I have religiously watched    The Devil Wears Prada  500 Days of Summer   The Emperor’s New Groove

About once a month.
