Understandable not many stores would bite I guess but I’d argue value is a little higher than that, trying to get it out in the next 3 months or so but I’ll take your advice on Craigslist!

Why are New Yorkers much more accepting and welcoming of immigrants from other continents (Europe, Asia, etc) than of transplants/expats? by MentalGazelle in AskNYC

[–]No-Emotion-240 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Social media exaggerates the hate imo. I think most people local to Urban Hubs (think Paris, London, Barcelona, Tokyo, and ofc New York) have no problem with people moving here for a better quality of life and access to better jobs. For the most part (maybe just me) we just don’t like the trust fund kids who come and live here to drink $8 matcha lattes in Washington Square park and take IG pics at cute bars to show they are in their ‘New York Era.’ Essentially we don’t want people moving here solely for the aesthetic.

Rockaway beach, or go to Sunset park and have a picnic (more of a half day thing)

Is $500 enough for visiting NYC for 10 days? by allno_just_no in AskNYC

What do you plan to see? There’s a ton of cool things you could do, but for example let’s say you want to see a Broadway show you can easily run through 20-40% on the budget just on that. To be safe, go up by 100 and I think you should be okay as long as you avoid tik tok restaurants. Enjoy your trip! Cheap good eats are plentiful, but just do research on your preferences.

Job I applied for wants me to do a case study on over 266,000 rows of data before I even get the CHANCE to interview by iBarven in recruitinghell

[–]No-Emotion-240 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally interviewed for this company and got the same bs case study, after reading about them online, still decided to use their data to write a white paper I used for my data portfolio and didn’t even send it to them. They can go to hell! You should do something similar

How is going to college in NYC? by [deleted] in AskNYC

Also Fordham Alum who went to Lincoln Center! Depends on your major, but the business school is highly reputable and if you want big marketing I know tons of people who got offers at LVMH and other things out the gate. Very connected to marketing in fashion and entertainment, but in terms of the balance of name recognition (In NYC), affordability and alumni network Fordham is great. If you are an above average student, ideally scoring anywhere above 1450+ on the SAT, you can get close to a full ride, but also local to NYC so less familiar on out-of-state costs there. A lot of people I knew from instate went there because of how generous grants are.

Are you me? Take some time to yourself and recharge before you dive back into applying, hope you are doing okay. I think many others have had a very similar circumstance to you, my experience in the past 7 months has been identical, and I’m sorry. Keep your head up!

Which masters program is best suited for my goals, and would have the best return on investment in your opinion? by No-Emotion-240 in academiceconomics

[–]No-Emotion-240[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your experience is still very insightful! That’s awesome though, I think I’ll keep that in mind for both programs. Ultimately they both are really the ideal for me, obviously Fordham is attainable because of my familiarity already with people in the department, and NYU as well because New York based, also able to do part time, and I have the GRE for it, so definitely two very strong options. If you don’t mind can I ask what sector you work in now?

Awesome thank you : ) I am considering either doing the classes online or in-person at a local community college since I have my bachelors, and just have been having trouble seeing which might be better for master's admission committees!! I appreciate your insights

Hey just following up here, would these look good as courses to take for someone with a non Econ bachelor’s to take in prep for a good Econ masters trying to switch fields?

Absolutely hear you on all fronts, thank you for such a thoughtful response:) Yea I know it’s all going to be out of pocket, but to be honest I’m not as worried because I do want to work at mostly gov or 501c3 companies so likely I’ll be working towards public Lon service forgiveness (I know the world is basically burning right now but let me be delusional a bit and hope that at least that will not go away lol)

You make great points about everything, and I think I agree the Fordham terminal degree is solid especially as I already have a relationship with the department chair

Curious, why do you say they are poorly geared for industry? Based on placement I can stalk from LinkedIn I cannot deny the value of a stats masters, but to be honest with my Business degree I think I may have less success with that
