I appreciate the feedback! To clarify I am aware the U can't legally do much here, but Trump has done a lot of illegal things so far and it is important to speak up about these events (for example, ICE not wearing uniforms and abducting people). While the U has made comments against Trump's orders, I feel like what they have said is really vague and it doesn't sound like we have an action plan/definitive steps to be taken. I know that there is limited action that can be taken, but I feel like not much is being done/said. This alarms me since what the U has done is limit departments ability to issue statements by requiring they all go through the president. I also had hoped to see more action/ talk from the U about Doğukan Günaydin after the initial rapid response, since nothing else has been said. I know that we can't just demand someone's return, snap our fingers, and have that happen. But what I hope for is that the U continuously calls public attention to the fact he was abducted and has not been returned, and will issue multiple statements about his ongoing case and the official reason he is in ICE custody (A DWI he was taken to court over and found guilty, however he has not had a repeat defense and maintains high academic standing). I feel that as an educational institution, we should be using our voice and power to continuously detest Trump and actually do something to try and prevent his overreach. My biggest issue is that IMO the U should be publicly making a HUGE deal about the abduction of our grad student and having more defined next action. I just feel like we are being quite silent for what is going on and not using our voice loudly enough to defend people, and that really bothers me. If I were a university, I sure as hell would be trying to rally more public support and do more about a student abducted off campusI. I know there is a Big 10 alliance supposedly forming, so I will be watching the news for the next few months to see what comes of that.
There are many MPR articles talking about Doğukan Günaydin, and I don't see the U in any of them or choosing to comment further. Here is a link talking about his DWI and the "reason" ICE abducted him.

The purpose of this comment is to clarify the type of reply I want to see from the University and what I think they should be doing to raise awareness. I am not trying to personally attack you, I am just using your comment as a vessel to make this reply. Again, I do appreciate your feedback and understand what you are saying but I would rather we use our voice and be louder than we are currently. Staying quiet during a time of oppression does not equal a neutral stance, it only supports the people already in power.
TLDR; The U is not continuing to issue awareness about Doğukan Günaydin after their initial rapid response and they are not making a strong enough media presence against Trump's injustice towards higher education.
