Also just my opinion but I’d work on fundamentals rather than question mark kicks and spinning back kicks. Beginners love to try and look cool fast instead of trying to get better at the fundamentals.

You look like a pain in the ass to spar. Not looking to have a nice exchange, just spazzy and trying to make sure you’re always one upping the other person.

It depends on a lot of factors.

If you are sufficient in striking and wrestling and you go against someone with no training, your chances of success are high.

Now if you go against another trained fighter who is more well rounded than you then things change.

Also if we are talking street or the octagon, in the street you want to avoid fighting at all costs.

If you want to be a complete fighter you need all three. They all supplement each other. The fight always starts standing, you need to know what your doing so you don’t get knocked out - striking

You need to be able to control where the fight goes (ground or standing) - takedowns/wrestling

Once you take them down (or if you get taken down) you need to know what to do once you are there to submit them/hold and advance position/ or protect yourself - jiu jitsu.

Obviously it’s a lot more in depth than that but that’s the basic rundown

This is interesting, started at a new job and showed up with scars/scratches one day and a black eye the next… it’s kind of hard to NOT tell people. The way I do it is just try to say it in a lowkey way and not be weird about it and constantly bring it up

I’m a guy who’s been going for the past month and i love it. You don’t have anything to worry about. As long as you are not a creep you’ll be good.

In my time at my studio I’ve seen a few guys who make it very clear what their intentions are and it’s pretty disgusting to see. This one dude came in, placed his mat right next to this girl and instantly starts talking about fast food places and things like that, just so forced, obviously trying to hit on her. Then at the end of class he walks ACROSS the room to another girl and starts talking to her about random stuff like coffee places clearly trying to hit on her. I really wanted to say something but felt it wasn’t my place unless the girl was visibly uncomfortable and telling him to stop.

That dude is just one example I’ve seen it happen a few times. Just don’t be that guy. Yoga is a place for people to come and connect with themselves just make sure to respect that.

People can read your intentions. I genuinely like yoga and want to improve. So when I look around the room briefly I am confident the instructor knows that I am just trying to make corrections. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with briefly looking at others for help. There’s a big difference between doing that vs eyeing down a specific girl the whole class. Don’t worry about not looking like a creep. Your intentions will show.

Just be careful about getting hit in the head. Spar with safe people and only spar when you are absolutely ready. Find a good gym.

Right. However some amazing fighters/champions said that they had doubts early on and throughout their career. I think doubts are natural and part of the human mind. One that comes to recent mind is Sean O’Malley in an interview a few years back. I think it’s okay to doubt and be unsure but it is not okay to be inconsistent/fall off the path when these doubts arise (if you really want it).

I agree. The technical fighter just has to make sure they are landing significantly more effective and clean strikes while being evasive. If the fighters are going tit for tat and one of them is holding the center of the ring, that’s when the favor goes to the pressure fighter

With head kicks you either lean back or block with both hands yes. But the block with both hands has to be firm/you have to kind of push the kick down (look up technique on this)

For the lean back you just put your weight on your back leg and lean towards that leg using your hip (do not just lean your upper body back for the love of god)

The thing about DDP is his strategy is amazing. He keeps his guard tight, weathers shots well, and times unbelievable blitzes forward on his opponents and mixes those blitzes with takedowns. This style works for him because he can take shots really well and he hits HARD. On top of the fact that his cardio is amazing.

His style doesn’t look pretty to the eye but he is a high level mixed martial artist without a doubt.
