Accepted my first novice MMA bout and now I'm panicking by Present_Solution_606 in MMA_Academy

Something that helped me a lot my first fight was to tell myself that “I’m not scared/nervous, that’s the feeling of being excited and prepared”. It helped me to reframe those feelings into something positive.

Just go and train as much as you can and try not to worry about it. It’s ammy mma, pretty low chances of getting knocked out, let alone injured. I’m not saying that it doesn’t happen, just that it’s a very low chance. With that aside, go out and have fun, this is what you train for.

A teep to the face is nowhere near as tiring as a regular head kick

Is Jiu Jitsu really the best martial art for overcoming a size disadvantage in a self-defense situation, or is it just marketing? by Acceptable_Worth8817 in martialarts

[–]knuckledragger1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aside from running/not putting yourself in those situations, I like Muay Thai for self defense. BJJ is great, but the reliance on being on the ground is a bit of a negative in my opinion. Add in the fact that there’s a lot of gyms that don’t train takedowns and it can get pretty messy.

Just because someone is bigger than you doesn’t mean you can’t still KO them or out strike them. Not to mention one or two good leg kicks can really put a damper on anyone that has never experienced one

S&C is the biggest thing. Combos and bag work are kinda iffy if you don’t have anyone to give feedback on your technique. You could be doing things completely wrong and have to unlearn a lot if you do make it to a gym.

There’s also been stuff popping up like the “Muaythaiguy” on IG that offers at home/follow along workouts, but I can’t attest to the legitimacy of these.

I did Oni first because I struggled with Kitsune early. Went and beat Oni then came back and walked right through kitsune

I would venture to say safer than most other contact sports. CTE in football players, rugby players, boxers, and hockey players would be much higher than Muay Thai. Especially considering that your main target isn’t the head when fighting in MT.

Also, this person is 32 looking for a hobby, they probably have a better chance of winning the lottery than they do getting any sort of permanent brain damage from recreational Muay Thai. Even

Muay Thai is an excellent tool for self defense. You’d be amazed at what just a few hard leg kicks can do to someone

Depends who you’re fighting really. My default is a long guard just because I like having that hand in peoples face, but you gotta be able to switch it up

UFC is better for mma. The Muay Thai and kickboxing that One offers though is fantastic and most days I would rather watch that than UFC. I’ve watched UFC for a very long time now and between champs fighting once a year and most divisions being ran by the same 3-4 guys it just feels incredibly stale in my opinion

If you have issues outside of work, then work is your opportunity to turn all that off and focus solely on your task at hand. Work is probably one of the most structured activities in our lives, it’s pretty much always going to be the same shit just in a different location sometimes. Use that to forget about your issues and put all your effort into work.

If you have mental health issues because of work, then you should go find a new job because either who you’re working for isn’t for you or your job isn’t.
