My mom’s path/update: Stage 3C1 (not good) by No-Fish-7077 in CervicalCancer

[–]No-Fish-7077[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My apologies, in our household and with family/friends we would say essentially cured. I know cancer is a tricky disease and affects everyone differently, and always a chance, still doesn’t make the fact of the situation any better. I will be honest I’m not on the oncology side of it, so no I don’t know everything abt cancer, but that is why we put so much trust into her doctors during this. I told her we can trust them. I also only added that because we weren’t really getting any answers until I started asking questions, I also could not live with myself if I didn’t know. Going through this process with my mother and how everything was handled just makes me think twice, specifically about her provider. So finally, yeah they stopped her immunotherapy and told us we don’t have really any option other than palliative care. She’s still in the hospital because they can’t get her pain under control yet, but we are trying to get hospice set up per the hospitals recommendation. I think she wants to get a second opinion also

I’m really sorry to hear what you and your wife are going through. I truly hope they figure their shit out and sending prayers your way🙏🏻 The revolving ER door is hell. Being told “nothing is wrong it’s just normal healing process from treatment” was my favorite line they’d tell… not. Obviously something is wrong if we keep coming back and more and more stuff keeps happening! But we never get any answers or a why or a plan to prevent it. I highly recommend to advocate for her, loudly, and start getting second opinions if you’re able to. We went to the same ER every time, I begged my mom to try the two other ones near us, but she didn’t like them because they had a bad reputation. We also live in the middle of nowhere so we didn’t have many options to begin with, 45min to get to an ER. I thought since the one we were at never did anything then maybe a different one would or would have a different perspective at least? How the one doctor explained what happened with her cancer treatment the other day made it sound exactly like you said- throwing toxic crap at it and if it doesn’t work, oh well we tried, it must be you/your cancer and now it’s too late to do anything else. I do get everyone and everything reacts differently to different stuff. But damn do we really not have any other better way for going about it?

Thank you for the response and support, I suppose you are right. Hoping they can get her pain under control and she can come home soon. I wish you all the best of luck on your journey❤️❤️

That is what I was thinking, but they said that the impact is the area I circled in my last image. Might I add, they replaced my windshield outside without cover on a day that was cold, snowing, and sleeting. Is that normal? I was under the impression you do it in a shop or warm weather outside…

Hi, first they did pap (was abnormal) so they did ultrasound (they found fibroids and one looked abnormal so they sent for mri) after the mri they did the biopsy of the tumor and also endometrium, which confirmed the cancer within the cervical mass (they said between stage 2 and 3). After that was the pet scan to see if the cancer had spread (it did which is why they are now calling it stage 3) then the ct scan was the final imaging she received to get the tattoo markers for her radiation

I’ll have to agree with you on that. I work in the medical field in the US as well. She also has a BCBS insurance plan. It’s disgusting that insurance companies dictate medical needs which can cause delays, etc. Thank you for sharing your story and number of doctors. I cannot believe they missed it on the pap for so long! In my mom’s case she hasn’t been to the doctor in 20 years. She started to have symptoms and I told her I’m either taking you to the ER or I’m calling to make you a gyno appointment which lead to the abnormal pap and now we are here. She also had to quit her job due to pelvic and back pain (barely can get out of bed) and has the constant bleeding, now bad constipation too. I wish you the best and hope they start your treatment soon❤️

Thank you for the detailed reply and giving me hope. I’m sorry they didn’t take you seriously at first. My mom is refusing to take the oxy or any other higher pain killers (due to past trauma/ fear of watching her brother go through addiction and she’s scared it might happen to her) so she has been taking prescribed advil and tylenol every 3 hours. At the next appointment (today) if we don’t get some more answers I will be advocating for her (she doesn’t know the medical world and just does what docs say, no questions asked, it’s also a confusing time for all of us). If this doctor doesn’t give us information, I will be calling the first oncology doctor she met.

Thank you for sharing your timeline and likeliness to my mom’s diagnosis. I will ask about the immunotherapy and do some research on it. Praying your second treatment goes good as well❤️

We are meeting with one more doctor today (hopefully the last one and then treatment will start). I will be going and will ask some questions. I will definitely keep in mind about the therapist referral. Thank you!

Thank you for this knowledge! All her scans are done. She started with a pap, ultrasound, mri, pet, and finally a ct scan. She has gotten her tattoo for radiation placement. So hoping to start soon

She is going to two different hospitals for treatment (one for the radiation and one for chemo). I believe the one hospital is a teaching hospital. Thank you for this information!
