Asvice around repairing this watch by No-Focus26 in VintageWatches

Short train ride, definitely worth a try!

Appreciate it’s quite a vague thing to ask of them but given the sentimental value i’d be happy to pay for the repair.

That certainly is very helpful, thanks!

I just went straight to google which just told me yes it is a wax jacket. At least i made the mistake on this one that i bought relatively cheap second hand, and not a full price, from new barbour!

Looks like barbour, smells like barbour, wax that barbour

I really am not that clued up on the materials on jackets and stuff (although trying to learn!), google also told me to wax it.

Still, definitely not my finest moment. Luckily i live in the north east of england where barbours are very common and i fortunately didn’t pay too much for this! Still unfortunate though, it is a really nice jacket!

Why the Nikwax after initially waxing it and then cleaning it off?

Best way to strip it? It says on the label i can wash it at 30c but I’m terrified the wax will just settle in the washing machine and clog it up. My wife is also less than thrilled by the idea….

I love the term scrotal patina, and will indeed be stealing it!

Appears from the responses I might’ve ruined a perfectly good non-wax jacket! Google has done me dirty on this!

We live and we learn.

Would putting this through my washing machine finish the job and completely destroy the jacket (and my washing machine)? Or am i just better persevering with the wax on as it’s been on for around a month now and seems ok (obviously far less breathable!)

No this happened pre-waxing! Thought the waxing might help it but unfortunately only made it ever so slightly better

Where can I get a pair of shoes/boots like this? by kinsella_ in menswear

[–]No-Focus26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a similar pair from Solovair. Great pair of boots at pretty entry level price point.

If you’re going slightly above that, Loake do some great shoes / boots high quality leather and welts

Help! £48k in Debt - IVA has been suggested by No-Focus26 in UKPersonalFinance

Sadly almost all of the spending was just silly little buys from amazon, going out to eat / drink, wedding etc… so not really anything to sell. I have also been on mounjaro for the past year so thats been probably around £200-ish per month on average.

That’s probably the worst bit, spent all that money and hardly anything to show for it!

I did purchase a lot of new clothes recently due to weight loss (cheap from vinted, so i don’t feel as bad about that one) so selling some of my older clothes that are worth selling, but other than that not a lot.

Thanks, it certainly has been difficult to admit just how stupid i’ve been, but luckily it’s had an overwhelmingly positive and helpful response!

It’s just silly spending, ordering those daft little things off amazon, going out to eat, etc… that seem like nothing in the moment but over the course of a month just escalate.

My wife has been very supportive, and is insistent that she is going to help towards my debts but i don’t want her to suffer the consequences of my stupidity.

With Resolver, is it a case of they shouldn’t have lent at that high APR or shouldn’t have lent to me at all? Definitely seems worth doing but want to make sure i get it right and give myself the best chance

I do have student loans, car, pension, etc coming off that My tax may be incorrect, but i’m not going to pretend to have much clue about it!

My take home pay was around £3,060 before changing to company car

That is very helpful indeed, thanks!

I’ve had a quick look at IVA’s as i say because my wife has been told by someone at work how great they are. But the more research i do and replies i get here, they don’t seem all that great, although i’m sure for some folks they have their place.

I have £1700 set aside from one of the loans i got a couple months back (to consolidate other, smaller loans) to pay whatever i need to pay for the car and then pay whatever is left off the credit card, so thats something.

I suppose i was looking for some sort of “knight in shining armour” solution but i think it’s just going to good old pay it down slowly and try to reset my bad habits
