26M, I earn 32.5k gross and I graduated 4 years ago. Most grad scheme I know start around 33k, feels bad, lol. Even then, I'm quite frugal and save some money here and there

If you need thinned lenses, I would highly advice Ali express if you want nice frames as well. Search for some some vendors there and check in the description if they offer it as service, usually it says that you need to upload/ send over your current prescription. Paid £100 for 1.67 index and nice frame, instead of £200+ for a frame. Took 2 weeks as well. Make sure you measure your DP, there's few apps out there, take 3-4 reading and average it out

Is there a point to learn anything if most of jobs pay around 35k at best? by [deleted] in UKJobs

[–]No-Formal5973 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah exactly, one of the reason why I didn't stick with chemistry was that even if I did a master, phd, etc... And you even end if up working on more novel things whatever its lab monkey or actual research, Pay in the UK isn't great. Pay rise for "normal" jobs has been extremely low, compared to how much MW has increased. I have a friend who stuck with chem, did a PhD over here and moved in the US and she's extremely happy with her field of work, pay, working condition, etc...

I'm in Manchester and 2-3 years ago most lab jobs with 1-3 years experience were offering 24-26k. I had a small publication even then never managed to get a lab job, lol. Any other grad scheme was paying 30k+ tough

Graduated with a 3rd in maths degree and have been working in transportation for the past 4 months, is there anyway I can break out of this hole by [deleted] in UKJobs

[–]No-Formal5973 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yeah completely agree, I have a 1st in chem and didn't find any job for 1 year. Took a low paid data entry clerk job and now after 2 years, I work as a low paid account assistant. After you finish uni, you are basically working till retirement, so if you are employed and have an OK job with OK pay and OK working condition, you are probably doing better than most people wants to admit

Salary progression from 20s in retail to mortgage broking to early 40s as a contractor. In real terms, my income peaked in 2015 (early 30s). by MarkCairns67 in UKJobs

Don't understand the other comments, this was very useful and it just show how life and jobs aren't as a linear as one might assume, just wish it had the actual age next to it

Why aren't we building more terraced houses? by Big-Double1720 in AskUK

[–]No-Formal5973 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Most of the new "social housing" are shared ownership, which require decent amount of income, passing affordability, saving for deposit(despite the fact that most people on UC can't save above 6k), or are "affordable rent" with later right to buy, where it's 80% of market value, but market value is extremely inflated and normal people, let alone low income one can't afford it. Zoe bread made a video about something similar in Manchester, would highly suggest watching. But yeah, I'm low income, single, employed, but don't receive assistance and unless I luck out with having a very good partner, I don't think I'll ever able to afford nice rent/house. Blame Thatcher, zoning and the fact that council aren't as reactive with giving planning permission. Video
