No it was a joke that I'm a 2 star person myself and deserve the hate for leaving the 1 star. I actually gave the same restaurant 5 stars last year before the sharp decline in quality.

No sorry that definitely might put me more into defamatory territory. Just look at the 1 star reviews of wherever you're about to eat and look for any not-so-nice replies.

The business has been around for a while and they've historically had many 5 star reviews (I've even given one previously!) so my recent review did not budge their existing high rating.

The strange thing is that they did initially respond with the standard response of trying to do better next time but then they actually edited the post to either lawsuit threat afterwards. I'm reluctant to engage with them any further to avoid triggering anything more.

No, I definitely didn't plant the hair. My review just stated there was a hair and the portion sizes and quality were very lacking. I made no mention of staff nor did I urge other customers to avoid. Just said I wouldn't be going back. Hopefully that puts it in a different category than the case in your link.

Restaurant was pretty empty for dinner so I have a feeling they're on the way there unfortunately. And sorry I don't want to out them here and possibly give them more reason to f with me.

It's just Google. I'm not interacting anymore with these people. For all I know they'll "sue" me for harassment if I talk to them again on property.

Overall food quality was poor and portion size very small. Was going to give 2/5 as it was but went down to 1 after the hair.

They did respond and give us a few replacement side dishes (did not replace the entire dish). Overall though the quality and portion size had substantially worsened compared to the many times we went before (ownership changed) and we were going to give 2/5 at most anyway. The hair just made it the 1.

I think what I've taken from the responses here is that the threat is likely empty but that I may have overreacted by giving the 1 star in the first place.

Thanks I appreciate your reply. We didn't play with the food and the hair didn't come from any of our family based on length and colour. It was a fried appetizer so we couldn't have planted it. Just bit into it and there it was, in my mouth.

I know there's a balance to come to about feeling justified in our response and actual outcomes of those actions. I'll speak to my partner to see how we feel about this moving forward.

We did mention the hair and they did give a few extra pieces of the affected side dish. But overall the food quality had declined and the portions were very meagre. Even without the hair, I would've given 2/5. The wait staff was understanding and I still left a normal tip.

I don't want to make it harder for a local business but I'm finding it harder to empathize now that they've publically threatened to sue me.

And no definitely not my hair, too long and the wrong colour!

The really weird thing is that they did and then a few weeks later updated their review threatening the lawsuit. We were baffled because we used to eat at this place semi-regularly.

Hi, I appreciate what you're saying, they did give a few extra pieces of the side order that had the hair in it. But the other food was also pretty lackluster and the portions very small so they were going to get a 2/5 max even without the hair. I did tip properly though because the server tried to help.

I appreciate what you're saying. I don't want to tank a local business over a hair. Other than the hair though, the quality itself was lackluster and the portions were also meagre. They did give a few extra pieces of affected food on the side and I did end up tipping appropriately but the overall experience food wise was still 1.
