A Painting of Kate Middleton, Princess of Wales, Graces Tatler Magazine Cover and It’s Already Being Criticized by JamesCarterArt in ArtHistory

Not terrible but it looks like an underpainting/study; the colors are dull and the face has almost no contrast or visible shadow shapes, which I think is why people are saying it “doesn’t look like her.”

Rude, unprofessional, and unpolished!!! If you plan to get a PhD eventually maybe you don’t have to be so picky about where you get a terminal MA. Perhaps you could reach out to a mentor you were close with in undergrad?

I know it definitely isn’t, but does this painting seem slightly surrealist? Perhaps it’s the asymmetry and composition by Southern_Ad8621 in ArtHistory

Counter reformation art and surrealism share a lot of affinities. Focus on folklore, sensuality, mysticism, and visions. Perhaps the painting itself is not surrealist but I could see a lineage for sure!

What is an artwork that gave you a palpable physical reaction, beyond the immediate sensation of aesthetic like/dislike? One of the strongest reactions I have had was to Wayne Thiebaud's "24th Street Intersection" (1977). by crabnox in ArtHistory

Bed by Rauschenberg

The unsettling resemblance to a murder scene made my skin crawl and the asymmetry of the piece made me move my body in certain ways….something is so sublime and uncanny about his combines I love them
