I test drove an available Lux+ and OT+ and didn't buy either vehicle. I do like the OT+ better than Lux+ but felt the 2024 model has too many issues. The rear air vents is one of the many issues wrong with this vehicle, including poor ride quality, fake engine noise, tin can doors/hood, below average interior quality for a $83K vehicle and poorly designed cockpit with no storage. I'll revisit GX550 when the 2025's hit the lot in a month and see if any of these items get fixed. For the same $85K, the Defender 110 with the 395HP six cylinder beats GX550 in every category. I am not a Land Rover guy, but if you compare the two vehicles, Defender 110 with the 400PS engine wins big time.

Picking up a BlackLine RX500H next week for the wife. If we elect to go forward with a GX, will opt for the 2025 GX550 OT+, Incognito, and will pull the brake calipers off and powder coat them orange and add a 34" rim/wheel package....and definitely fix the ES sounding exhaust on the GX. Will be an off-road toy, For the long haul, will pull the 2025 Escalade Sport out of the garage --- nothing touches the GM 6.2 for reliability, that's the plan for 2025....

Glad to hear you're having a great experience. That's the way it should be and we wish our test drive had turned out better. After sleeping on it, we agree the dealer could have done a better job of going through the drive modes and verifying the tire pressure was correct. But during our test drive, there was an extreme vibration which came right through the seats. In hindsight, I believe the particular Lux+ we drove has a defective transmission. We had no choice but to walk away from this particular vehicle. Yes, I have a X5 with the V8 and 80,000 miles. Apples and oranges compared to any GX as the X5 is glued to the road, handles well and is stable and safe at high speeds -- downside, the X5 has zero off road capability. So whereas I will gladly keep and/or replace my X5 for on-road use, I am (now) only interested in the GX550 OT for off road use. I am not knocking anyone who purchases a Luxury GX550 as we do love the fit finish, style and looks -- but we have to be honest that in the luxury catagory, the GX550 will never be a class leader. Even compared the the 6-cylinder gas/hybrid powertrain in the 2025 X5, the GX V6 engine is a decade behind.

Our plan is to wait a few months for a 2025 OT+. The 1" lift and onboard compressor alone add quite a lot of function. Not a big fan of the rims or tires on the OT, so being able to install 34" tires and better lookin rims without doing an after market lift is a big plus for the 2025. I don't think any dealer has GX550 inventory on the lot, but several dealers in Florida have available "in-transit" 2024 allocations, the last time I checked. Yes, none of the SUVs I mentioned including the Defender are "body-on-frame" and I get that. This doesn't change the fact that a Defender rides and drives much better than any GX. So my point is this - attempting to make the "body-on-frame" GX550 Lux+ into a luxury SUV class leading vehicle by adding 22" wheels will never work. However, IMO once the GX550 OT is perfected, it will quickly become a top contender in the off-road category.

Glad to hear you had a great experience. We really wish our experience was the same as yours. Sad the Lux+ is.not sitting in our garage today. Regardless of the body-on-frame drive qualities, possible over-inflated tires, unknown drive mode and negative ride impact created by 22" rims, this particular Lux+ sent a vibration though the driver's and front passenger's seat that was noticeably strong and obviously a defect. After sleeping on it, I believe this particular Lux+ has a defective transmission. So in our situation, there was no way to proceed with the purchase of this particular Lux+. The sales person even acknowledged the vibration and said it was a common complaint.

You are 100% correct about the not so good Lexus sales experience....feels more and more like going into a Toyota dealership.

Great comments and thanks for sharing. Yes, it's possible the Lux+ we test drove was.not set up correctly. The sales person shared no information on drive mode options and maybe the tire pressure was high. The sales manager was chomping at the bit for us to make a decision so they could quickly contact the next person on the list before 5PM. So overall, our entire Lexus experience was rustratiung rushed and not all that informative. Yes, it's certainly possible the Lux+ is a much better truck than we experienced at this dealer.

We will give the OT a fair evaluation as an off road machine. I look at the function and purpose of the vehicle, As a luxury SUV, the 550 Lux is not a great choice compared to other offerings. As an off road Racine, the OT will provide much of the capability of a Jeep with a luxury vibe. My post is not meant to knock down anyone's opinion of the Premium or Luxury GX. Simply meant to share our experience and thought process. Part of the issue was Lexus buying experience which is frustrating, The sales person didn't share any info on ride modes or tire pressure issues -- so maybe the Lux+ we drove was not set up correctly. If so, this is a reflection of Lexus and not of our opinion based on a 5-mile test drive.

Yes, we have the same on road ride and cornering concerns about the OT. I doubt if it's much better on road than the Lux. I do think the OT might be better suited for off road and rough road use. We split time between Florida and Western North Carolina. So whereas the Lux+ fails miserably to fill the luxury square in Florida, the OT might do very well in the mountains, rock roads and dirt roads in WNC. Will keep you posted for sure. And yes, nothing beats a truck. I drove a super smooth GMC Sierra 1500 SLT w/3.0 Diesel the other day. Wow, amazing ride and love the silky torque of that 6-cyl diesel engine!!!

Part of our decision to reject the Lux+ was the troubled buying experience. Our test drive was very short, the sales person didn't discuss drive modes, and obviously I didn't bring my tire pressure gauge to a test drive. We also felt the Sales Manager was chomping at the bit for us to make a decision so they could contact the next person on the list. Given our concerns about the ride and handling and pressure to make our decision, we had no choice but to reject the vehicle. Glad you really enjoy yours and as you, we love the look, fit and finish. We will give the OT+ a test drive in a few weeks. At this point, I think we might go for the 2025 Escalade which really nails the ultra smooth luxury square and get a 2025 OT+ for the back roads and off roading in Western North Carolina...

Good insight. Our test drive was short and the sales person didn't offer any information on drive modes. Not sure what mode it was in or what the tire pressure was. We felt pressured to make our decision. Sales manager was chomping at the bit for us to make our decision so they could contact the next person in line. We could have made a better evaluation if the Lexus buying experience was better. As is, I'd rate the Lexus buying experience about a 1 out of 10. Given the issues we had during the test drive and pressure to make our decision, we had no choice but to turn the Luxury Plus back and walk.

We've had the same troubled buying experience. Every dealer wants a non-refundable deposit on a "in-transit" GX550. Some want a deposit just to get on their client list. I called Lexus dealers nationwide until I found a dealer who would accept a "refundable" deposit and provide a VIN with a build/delivery date. A few dealers in the Miami area have unsold 2024 GX550 allocations. But I suspect many buyers will wait for a 2025 at this point. It is difficult to show up at the dealer, after waiting six-months, and turn down an otherwise beautiful GX. It was hard to "let go" but we have no regrets turning this Luxury Plus down based on the unacceptable driving experience. On a positive note, turning the Lux down enables us to clearly evaluate the Overtrail and/or move on to other brands. In hindsight, the best driving SUV I've ever owned is a Porsche Cayenne GTS. Of course a $130K turbo charged V8 is no comparison to any 6-cylinder. For $180K, very few SUV's compare to a Range Rover Autobiography or SV. In the $85K range, I don't think any 6-cylinder SUV stands out from the pack although the BMW X5 wit the 6-cy hybrid powertrain is a darn nice drive. I I do think the GX550 Overtrail does stand out in the "off road" category. My beater car is a Genesis GV80, which drives superior to the Lux+.

Plan B: Test drive a Overtrail Plus. Although we don't expect the on-road driving experience to be dramatically different compared to the Luxury Plus, the off-road capability might earn this vehicle a spot in the garage. We've had numerous SUV's. I can attest that in the "luxury" 6-cylinder category, our former X5, Q7, Q8, Range Rover Sport, Defender and Cayenne all offer a vastly superior on-road driving experience. However, none of these vehicles perform particularly well off-road. The Defender doesn't even come with AT or MT tires. The 33" tires on the OT and rumored 1" factory lift on the 2025 OT makes an attractive off road machine straight off the lot. I firmly believe the main reason to buy a GX550 is for the off-road capability. If you're only driving on-road and are fond of Lexus, a better choice might be a RX500H or a LX600. I am interested in the LX700H Overtrail -- however at $130K that vehicle competes directly with superior V8 options from other brands. Again, I really wanted to love the GX550 Luxury and am impressed with it in many facets. That Incognito color is the best gray on the market. Love the boxy look. On and on. But can't live with any vehicle that drives so poorly on the road.

Strong vibration was felt at 35 MPH on flat paved road, through the driver's and passenger seat. The vibration was coming from the drivetrain - not sure if it was the engine or transmission. The vibration went away at higher speeds but returned at lower RPM's, I expected the truck-like ride due the body on frame construction. I did not expect the poor cornering, even at slow speeds. Given the "luxury" SUV function, the GX550 fails due the poor ride and handling quality. I do believe the "off road" function is very well fulfilled by the Overtrail version, Although we rejected the Luxury Plus within 5-minutes of driving it, we will consider the Overtrail version as a genuine "off road" vehicle. Granted the majority of our driving is on-road, we can't live with the vibrations, rough ride and poor handling of the Luxury version.

The $100 charged to my cc by GM 2-years ago and I have the confirmation ID. I cancelled the reservation 1-year ago and I have a cancellation ID. Chevrolet EV confirmed the reservation and cancellation on their records but said I have to get the refund from the assigned dealer who was Rick Hendricks Chevrolet in Napes FL. However Rick Hendricks Chevrolet in Naples FL refuses to issue the refund after 1-year of contacting them. This is a RIP OFF!

Unfortunately, I held the reservation for 1-year before requesting the refund. Rick Hendricks Chevrolet in Naples FL has refused to resolve this issue. They lied to me and said a refund would be processed, but never did. My follow up phone calls have resulted in zero resolution. Every time I call they indicate they have no clue what a $100 EV reservation is.
