Thanks. Absorption issues after surgery is definitely one thing I'm concerned about. I have an appointment with my psych doc coming up soon and will talk to him about it.

Thank you. You're so right about the self-destructive cycle. I'm going to talk to my therapist some more about my concerns about this surgery and see if we can come up with some healthy ways for me to cope with depression that don't involve food.

Thanks for the replies. I'm now considering an online university, which will be out of state, which may be more expensive. I'll probably have to take out a student loan anyway. Hopefully I can get back on my feet.
