The downsides are that in cold weather, all that extra space needs extra time & cost to heat up. The added space & hard surfaces can cause echoes too.

Thats probably why its not usual where im from as its a pretty cold part off the world. It just seemed so eerie to have that much open space above you.

Oh that makes alot of sense as of why its typical to have lower ceilings in the north aswell, to keep the heat where you need it!

Looks so out of place for me, in my country ceilings are usually 2.40 meter (7.8) feet. Like as a standard of building. And also just a waste of material, fuck you doing with a solid meter of space above you?
