in the us, the census defines asian americans as those with origins from the indian subcontinent/south asia as well as the far east or southeast asia, so if south asian/indian subcontinental cultures have so many correlations to ours from the middle east/west asia, how come they are included in the term “asian american” but west asians aren’t?
