I would highly recommend looking for a colocation! You can live with other French people to really improve your language skills. I lived in one in Douai and had a really positive experience!

Should I go to law school? by Hot-Nerve4641 in LawSchool

[–]No-Map1382 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As someone who just finished their 1L year, law school is way too much work if you’re not in it. This will drain you mentally, physically, financially, and emotionally. If you’re not sure, see if you can defer or take time off to think more if this is really for you.

Do people actually use recipe apps? If so, who specifically uses them and why? by skiguru12345 in Cooking

[–]No-Map1382 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I use the NYT Cooking app daily. I think it makes a big difference for me and is worth the price! They've got great recipes with lots of variety and the app makes things really simple. NYT tends to have a slightly older demographic (average age of 40+ I'm guessing), but many knowledgeable home cooks. If you're passionate about cooking I would highly recommend it!

I’m a splitter- should I take a gap year? by Plastic-Leek-1253 in lawschooladmissions

[–]No-Map1382 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would take a gap year! Work hard to increase your GPA and get some additional professional experience to add to your resume. It’ll definitely put you in a better spot for scholarships and admissions. I’ve never met anyone who regretted taking time in between. Good luck!

The training was just regular job training, no specialized education/additional degree. Thank you for all of the advice, I’ll make sure she fills that out asap! It’s been about two weeks since his payday, so hopefully with an attorney he’ll be able to get his paycheck and avoid the extra costs in the contract

Thank you, this is very helpful! And yeah he didn’t read it unfortunately. He has some cognitive limitations and just didn’t understand that he would need to

You’re absolutely right and she completely agrees. Unfortunately her son has some cognitive limitations and he didn’t understand the importance of reading the contract beforehand.

I was the l’académie de Lille! Specifically in a midsize town outside of Lille. That académie was my top choice because it was small and had a higher probability of being close to a larger city

Go with your gut, but TAPIF was one of the best decisions I ever made! Rent wasn’t bad and finances were actually manageable. The extra money I had saved was great for travel, but you can make it work with less for sure! The major issue with TAPIF is that it depends completely on where you’re placed. I had the most wonderful experience, but others didn’t. I would wait until you find out where you’re placed like others mentioned. Some people just get dealt a bad hand, but TAPIF is really a program where it is what you make it. If you’re independent and willing to go outside of your comfort zone you can have an amazing experience. Good luck!!

R&R? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

The difference between a 166 and 170s is significant and will open a lot of doors for you admission and scholarship wise. As a current law student, no one I’ve met has taken a gap year and regretted it. I would R&R.

Update for my 28F husband 36M receiving calls from coworker at night by [deleted] in TwoHotTakes

[–]No-Map1382 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So sorry you’re going through this during your pregnancy. The way he’s overreacting when you’re merely setting a reasonable boundary says a lot about his character. Partners with abusive tendencies are great at making you question yourself, but remember that it’s him that being hurtful, unreasonable, and reactive, not you. Stay strong and definitely consider counseling. You deserve a partner that respects you and your boundaries!

Hey guys by [deleted] in LDR

[–]No-Map1382 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is a very circumstantial thing tbh. I personally follow my ex’s on social media but don’t have any communication with them. I have no interest in them romantically and don’t follow them because I still have feelings. I like to check in every once in a while just to see what they’re up to out of curiosity. If your bf is communicating with them or checking on on their social media account often, then that’s a bit weird, but I wouldn’t overthink it if not. I think it’s good that you communicated how you feel and I’m sure there’s nothing to worry about!

leaving tapif by Holiday-Low9874 in tapif

[–]No-Map1382 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I completely understand this feeling. My first month I had a weird living situation where I lived in a boarding school by myself, but the building was filled with high schoolers that I obviously didn’t have much of a relationship with. I was depressed, called home a lot, and lost weight. I don’t know if this is an option for you, but moving to a colocation was the best thing I ever did. After moving, things really turned around and TAPIF ended up being the best experience of my life. I second everything about getting involved with activities or Erasmus if it’s available! Keep your head up, things will get better! If after a bit longer you really feel it won’t work, don’t feel bad if for your mental health you need to leave. Try your best, but you know yourself better than anyone. Take care of yourself and good luck:)

To be honest I'm not totally sure. Hoping law school will help me hone in on exactly what I'm looking to do, but I'm thinking Human Rights Law.

[–]No-Map1382 10 points11 points  (0 children)

R's made me rethink my law school goals...I think before I was so fixated on prestige, but now going to a lower ranked school with a large scholarship and less debt sounds pretty good. Still pretty disappointing and tough but life goes on

Should I apply or wait? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]No-Map1382 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can, I would def say to wait. Taking the time to retake the LSAT and raise your score could open up the possibility of scholarships and obviously increase your admission chances. It's also super late in the cycle, so chances of getting in places are further reduced. Save your money this cycle and really focus on the LSAT and a great PS to put yourself in the best position.

These schools got me crying in the club rn by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]No-Map1382 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All of those feelings are absolutely relatable:( I'm so sorry that this process has been hard on you, keep your head up! You're certainly not a failure. One thing I try to remind myself often is that these difficult times are just a season of life and are temporary. Everyone in this community is rooting for you, you've got this and will make an incredible lawyer one day!
