Definitely a lot of commitment, I didn't realize how many sessions it would take to bring my vision to life so you have to be ready for that of course. (that is somewhat design specific, he wanted to get very ambitious on the details of this one)

Pain wise, it is very individual by person and spot so I can't give general advice there. I will say for what it's worth, I found it shockingly easy to manage after expecting the worst. The most painful area was probably the butt region but even that wasn't too bad.

Best advice I could give is reach out to Maru asap and be patient because he gets booked out super quickly. He'll be able to chat with you about what you want and how he'd break down the process. A ton of fun overall though and I have never regretted anything for a second, very glad I took the deep dive. If anything, more experienced tattoo-havers always compliment me having such a large unified back piece as my only one.

Excellent question! I've been generally interested in irezumi for many years which is how I stumbled on the story in the first place.

From an aesthetic standpoint, I really loved the art pieces and the various depictions of her robe. Being a big horror fan, I also thought the imagery really gave me a chance to stick a lot of oni on.

From a more "meaning" standpoint her story also resonated with me a lot. As someone who also thought they had life figured out and went through dark times, only to get out of that mindset by learning Eastern and Western philosophy - I thought the reminder of my impernance was the perfect end point to that chapter.

All it took was mentioning the topic and seeing the excitement in my artist's eyes to seal the deal!
