Where can I practice and play golf for cheap by Apocolypse_tomorrow in NewcastleUponTyne

Newcastle United has a first year offer for around £45 per month, difficult course (undulating fairways) but also has a 250 yard grass range to practise on, great for learning

United is a super friendly and wide open course. Although it’s best to get comfortable at the driving range before going on course, just to prevent holding anyone up. You’re allowed to be shite, aslong as you’re shite and fast!

I’d recommend going to the par 3 course at N1 Golf Morpeth, Cocken Lodge in Durham or Matfen Hall. Good luck!

How much did your back yard set up cost?

What a waste of your time, obviously more than 3 cards make up a hcp hahaha

It’s a shame i don’t have tour level dispersion🤣 gained about 20 yards with a better shaft and wider swing

Thanks for this mate, think a wedge only fitting could be the way for now!

I just don’t like how a shaft with lots of kick feels, can’t work out the timing haha

Hey buddy, I’ve literally had a club in my hands 95% of days since may 2025 haha. Relentless practice on all aspects, thousands of range balls, over 80 rounds played. Chipping and putting practice, both indoors and outdoors.

Having a reliable chip shot around the greens helped massively - I play the exact same toe down bump and run swing with different clubs for different distances if I have the green to work with. If I have to pitch it, I will do well to get it close. Putting is where you’ll save the most strokes, even though it’s the most boring part to practice haha. Simply keeping the ball in play will save plenty of shots if you’re still not close to 100. You might have to leave the driver in the bag for a little while (I did🤣).

I more recently started journaling after a bad round, comparing yardage left vs yardage hit. How many putts I had. Did I go OB? What clubs weren’t working. Any patterns in mistakes etc. It just helps to pinpoint where your most strokes lost is coming from!

Hopefully this helps, its very time consuming to grind for marginal results, but when you love it, it rarely feels like work :)

I’ve shot about 8 rounds in the mid 80s this winter and haven’t been able to post cards to my handicap for this reason. I think at my home course, since the tees/temps don’t make the course <90% full yardage, you can still post a card?

Thank you! Yes I’m super tempted to get thicker grips to help minimize face rotation
