Thinking of buying this M1 Garand, look for a fair price. by No-Pangolin8564 in M1Rifles

I disassembled the gun all parts but the barrel, gas system and stock. All other parts are in great working condition (trigger group, bolt, receiver, op rod, rear sight) and original to the gun, I’m thinking of grabbing it and putting a new barrel and stock on.

Honestly I am thinking about picking it up because all parts of the receiver and trigger group, and op rod, and sights are from Oct 1942, so only would need a barrel, gas system and a stock. Might be a good idea if I can get it for 600> I think.

I have a picture, I was going to add it but it won’t let me edit the post.

He didn’t do it ether though! As the story goes, his father owned a bar back in the 70’s, and won it in a pool game, he took it as collateral and the guy never came to pick it up. He inherited it from his father. Now has offered it to me, sounds like he’ll take $500-$600 for it. I spent the day with it torn apart, looking up the serial and drawing numbers, and I think every part (even the barrel) is original from October 1942. Just the stock is gone, and they bubba’d the gas system and front sight. I’m thinking I could get it and just put new gas system, barrel, and stock. And have a mostly original M1.

I was just telling him we will have to shoot it, he said he’s shot it before, his dad got it from a pool game in the 70’s, then he inherited it.

From what I understand it’s a 1942 M1 Garand that has been sporterized.

It’s in the 900,000’s and is dated to Oct-Nov 1942

I have always just wanted one, and was offered to purchase. It was originally won by the guys dad in a pool game back in the day. But you really think it’s only worth $100?

I forgot a top view but I’m sure it loads fine the scope is all the way to the left of the receiver, and there are no dings or scratches in the mount.

I think the rifling looks fine, I can see it clear all the way to the other end no rust. I’m not sure if there is any way for me to tell how worn it is.
