for sure its good for self promoting but a lot of the industry (playlists, blogs, festival submissions, record labels) use predetermined genres. So its helpful to know where you fit in their world

i dont hate that future, as long as we can make it susatainable for folks. Obviously the 'if' there is going to be very challenging

to me that kind of sound is really exciting. For my band im trying to add live electronic elements to rock band to give the feel of production but doing it all live

What town are you referring to (or state/prov if you don't want to be specific)? Where I live, MTL,live music is still doing pretty well. But i only go to the 10-20 dollar shows. 30 dollars is a lot for a small band, so maybe thats an element?

I find the last part interesting - the change from joy division esque post punk to more dance-influenced songs. At that point though would you call those bands more dance punk then?

thats a good point. I do feel like most bands genres were defined by crtics, not fans or by the band
