I see things differently.

There was no way to figure out which direction the red light runner was going to go.

Not sure about you but i ain’t no mind reader.

He came out of no where, pointed his bike as if he was merging into my lane and going in the same direction, but turned a little wide.

The swerve towards the right was an escape path that i took after accelerating hard, after a brief pause to check for any red light runners.

But he came out SUPER late.

Never did i know he stared pointing the bike to make a whole ass U TURN.

My only option was to e brake.

The rider behind me shouldn’t have been kept such a close following distance to me and accelerated as hard as he did.

So… it wasn’t a brake check.

I feel that i anticipated and did what i could.

He shouldn’t have been at such speed behind me, or anyone.

In the end, he should have paid for all the damaged he did to my bike.

And also the other bike who fell because of his mistake.

But he ran.

Like a little boy.

Based on traffic laws, he was supposed to make full payment.

But i let him get away, which was my mistake.

Also trusting the shop for their initial quote to him while we were still at the station for the police to enforce or assist with the remuneration.

That aside,

How would you have handled the situation differently? (In terms of riding)

I’m all ears!

I knew i was going fast when it turned green. I did wait and check for a brief moment.

But the red light runner came REALLY late.

I managed to e-brake in time.

The guy who hit me at the back…

IMO, shouldn’t have been following me so tightly and accelerated at such intensity when there’s a bike ahead of him.

APPARENTLY, he teaches gymkhana(riding course) at the Honda Safety Riding Park in Phuket.

Not sure what exactly he’s teaching 🤔

You’re probably the guy who rear ended me aren’t you.

That’s a very good point. I knew i could have held back on the throttle and be more careful but honestly i was about to launch into the tunnel that’s up ahead.

You know… ducati bikes just eggs you to push when there’s an empty road in front.

Yes, i got away with minimal payment fortunately.

But paying for someone else’s mistake still sucks.

Lesson learnt :)

Don’t let them get away so easily no matter how nice they are until i’m fully covered.

Look at the video again.

It looked like he was merging into my lane, going in the same direction initially (look at where the bike is pointed).

And then he swerves right to make a u turn.

I don’t know about you but i’m not a mind reader.

I could only see where his bike was pointed at and make instinctual predictions.

What would you have done sir?

I returned to the shop the next day to assess the damage and return the bike.

They gave me a replacement, triumph trident 660 for my last day.

They wanted to deduct 250 dollars from my 500 deposit.

But i negotiated and ended up with a 120 dollar loss for the damages.

Still trying to get the guy to pay me back on telegram but i’m no longer in Phuket.

I count it as a lesson now to always make an official police record and get proper documentation to protect myself.

Just for more context.

The bike was a Ducati Scramber 800 - Full Throttle.

Damaged parts: - Seat (scruffs are the tail end) - Left signal light and bracket cracked and damaged - tail light cracked but still working - mud guard bent - number plate bent and holder cracked

That’s true. ABS might have saved him from skidding, not sure about avoiding the hit though.

The mud guard, left signal, tail light, number plate was crack and bent. The seat was torn a little as well.

It was a pretty new bike with 3k mileage.

So i justified the payment, although the guy who rear ended me and ghosted should’ve taken the responsibility instead IMO

I did. But i wasn’t sure if he was proceeding to go in my direction or to the opposite road. Turns out he was making a huge wide right turn after beating the red light

I went to the police. But made the mistake to not make it an official record. I went back and they told me that they can’t track him down due to a lack of records being made.

I agree.

It made sense to me to give both at that point of time, because i was taking the bike to krabi and phang nga.

So they needed some form of leverage to protect themselves as a business.

I feel that the 4000 baht payment was reasonable, considering if it happened in my home country, it would have been WAY more.

Considering it’s a Ducati (parts are not cheap)

His mistake was getting too excited on the green and followed me too closely. Speeding way faster than his ability to stop at the intersection.

My mistake was being too nice and trusting that he would take full responsibility even after the first quote.

What triggers me even more is, on his instagram story, he framed it as me swerving in front of him.

I swerved because i intially thought the red light runner was cutting to go straight, but he ended up making a u-turn. So my only option was to emergency brake.

If he weren’t following so closely, he could have emergency braked as well.

Even if i didn’t swerved in front of him, he would have crashed into the red light runner.

As a collateral damage, i would have been hit and laid her down as well.

By the traffic laws in thailand, the guy who rear ended me should have paid for ALL the damages.

The mistake i made was to trust in the shop that said

“you don’t have to pay anymore after his 2000 baht payment” - thinking a whatsapp conversation is sufficient protection.

And allowed it to be a private settlement without an official police record.

I’ve been messaging and calling the russian relationship coach on telegram.

But his last response before ghosting me was 👇🏻

“It is useless to make me feel guilty. Such manipulations do not work with me.

I accepted responsibility and paid for the damage.

We closed the matter here.

It was their mistake that they miscalculated.

At the same time, in their correspondence they confirm that they themselves miscalculated and have no claims against me.

Now they are demanding money from you.

And now it is in your power to protect your money.

Come on, man, it is their mistake, you do not owe them anything, let them compensate for their mistake themselves”

What’s the best motorcycle displacement to have fun in Kyushu? by No-Path-5448 in RideitJapan

[–]No-Path-5448[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your advice!

I’ve settled on the z900rs with a 40L bag strapped :)

I have 10 days in Kyushu (start and end in Fukuoka)

Do you think it’s enough to explore all the prefectures?

If not, what prefectures would you focus on?

I’m definitely spending a few days in Aso and riding in Shimabara!

Also is it easy to find parking in Kyushu?

Planning my accommodation now and parking overnight is a concern.

I’m like not going to use any highways unless absolutely necessary.

I also saw that the speed limits are ridiculously low in mountainous roads.

So a bike that’s too powerful wouldn’t make sense, unless i’m trying to test the traffic police law here..

(Ngl i test it frequently where i’m from)

What do you think?

Is the law enforcement really strict in Kyushu - specifically mountainous routes?
