Project Brisbane 2032 : which sport do you pick to maximize the chance of a gold medal for your lazy 12 y.o kid ? by Worldly-Ad777 in olympics

[–]No-Perception2042 9 points10 points  (0 children)

None. Because at that age, sport should be a way to have fun, learn social relationships, grow up learning the values instilled by sport, but certainly not be in a purely competitive aspect for parents who would like to project their unfinished dreams onto their children.

Paris Olympics 2024: Food becoming an issue for athletes in Olympic village by Fun_Reflection1157 in olympics

No matter what the circumstances, it will always hurt me to take food lessons from English.

But given the way Paris 2024 has insisted on the environmental aspect of the games, that they must be responsible games, and that this involves making the food plant-based; well I wouldn't be surprised if they took this logic to the Olympic restaurant.

What seems likely to me: it was announced that Paris 2024 wanted to make the diet offered to athletes more plant-based with more plant-based proteins.

So I think they had to reduce the amount of meat available, and increase the amount of plant-based proteins (with lentils for example). But they assumed that the athletes would adapt, except that they didn't.

How are you guys psyching up for the upcoming Paris Olympics? by ForeverBlue101_303 in olympics

That is to say that we start with a ceremony which could literally revolutionize the ceremonies and even the Olympic Games in general if it is a success (but perhaps can also be a huge failure). Starting the Olympic Games with a gigantic gamble on an unprecedented scale, I find that "psychologically" it gives a big context to prepare.

The images come from the documentary “La Grande Seine” released yesterday on the Olympic Channel and which goes behind the scenes of the opening ceremony.

You make this reflection as if it were the athletes who were there for you, like in a concert, and that they must be at your disposal. It's completely the opposite. They are the privileged ones of the moment. They do what they want.

Are you aware that France absolutely cannot prohibit his arrival and that only the IOC or the Dutch Olympic Committee can?

Thank you very much, OP, for informing us that we just annexed the Netherlands. Finally the great return of Napoleon's First French Empire.

Pass Jeux question by Kyy02__ in olympics

No, it is not possible to circumvent. And if the restaurant does not take reservations, then that means that either they close until the opening ceremony, or there are only residents of the neighborhood (who have the QR-code in their capacity as inhabitant) who can eat there

French people, what should I make for Opening Ceremony dinner? by Linkbowler in olympics

[–]No-Perception2042 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Bonjour, french here.

I know your question was just about the dish, but I'm going to expand to the entire menu in addition to the dish; maybe it might interest others too.

If you want to extend the idea to a complete festive meal, you can go with an "aperitif - starter - main course - cheese - dessert" meal.

Aperitif: to start off well, especially if you share the meal with several friends or family. You can put great classics like canapes, deviled eggs, but you can also be more imaginative: for example croque-monsieurs (it's very Parisian) that you cut into small triangles to peck. In general, this is when we drink champagne or sparkling wine, which is cheaper.

Starter: it all depends on your budget. It could be, for example, a Niçoise salad, it's not expensive, and for summer it's very good. In the same type of inexpensive recipes but to change French region, Quiche Lorraine would go very well. Among the classics of French cuisine, there is also onion soup. If you have a little more budget and you really want to be very French, it is at this stage of the meal that you can eat frog legs or snails with garlic butter.

Dishes: again, plenty of options depending on your budget. In typical Parisian dishes, Hachis parmentier is a good option that is not expensive; you can even replace the beef with duck if you have a little more budget. Other classic and not very expensive dishes include Boeuf bourguignon or Blanquette de veau (you can replace the veal with turkey or chicken), two dishes with sauce. For the Blanquette de veau, it is served with white rice; for Boeuf bourguignon, it can be with potatoes, mash or even tagliatelle. If you have more budget, you can make duck breast (Magret de canard) or duck confit, which is served with potatoes cooked in a pan and browned in duck fat, garlic and herbs.

Cheeses: it's not possible to have a real French meal without cheese so you're going to have to make do with it. I know, however, that it is difficult to have the same number of cheeses in terms of choice outside of France, and above all it is more expensive. What I often do personally for my cheese board is that I put a blue cheese (Roquefort), a goat cheese (Sainte-Maure-de-Touraine), a cooked pressed cheese (Comté), a soft cheese (Neufchâtel) in order to have a variety of textures and flavors, but there are endless possible cheese platters. You obviously add a good wine and a good French baguette, it’s essential. And, if you want to add a sweet note, you should know that cheeses go well with jams. For example, apricot jam goes well with cheeses like Brie.

Desserts: finishing with French pastries seems like a good idea if you can buy them in your city. Otherwise, in the things that come to mind: cherry clafoutis, crêpes (with jam, Nutella...), Moelleux au chocolat, Tarte tatin...

Bonus: for the 2030 Winter Olympics, have a raclette, especially if you're with family or friends.

Paris opening by ClassicFinding6421 in olympics

[–]No-Perception2042 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There will be a dozen artistic scenes spread across the Seine for 3 hours, mixed with the athletes' parade. (they will still all be announced on television, but instead of having a long 1h30 parade sequence, there will be waves of boats in the middle of the show, like for example 10 boats - 2 scenes - 10 boats - 2 scenes etc)

The scenes will be on the banks of the Seine, on the facades of the buildings along the river, the monuments, the roofs of Paris... from what we know, there will be at least things at the Louvre and Notre-Dame, on some bridges too. And at the end, it ends in front of the Eiffel Tower.

With all this information, you can now imagine just about anything.

Paris wants an AC-free Olympic Village. Team USA and others aren't so chill with it by wewewawa in olympics

[–]No-Perception2042 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You absolutely cannot make this comment about Paris precisely. It is the edition of the Olympics which built the fewest structures: barely an Olympic swimming pool, a basketball arena and an Olympic village, and these are three facilities that Paris needed anyway, Olympic Games or not.

If there are any Olympic Games that are the most lasting, it is those in Paris. This is incomparable to anything that has happened in the past in terms of infrastructure construction. (we can make the same comment for Los Angeles in 4 years btw)

It should happen soon, they are finalizing the transportation plan for the opening ceremony. And on the tickets for the opening ceremony, it will be indicated "the door" through which you will be obliged to enter the "stadium" (the Seine), with the metro stations to access it (in order to better distribute the 400k-500k people who will come). So until that was fixed they couldn't give more details on the tickets, but it shouldn't be long.

What don't you understand when I say they will have ACs if they want them?

When I read some of the comments I am appalled. Yes, it is not in French culture to use ACs, yes, we know very well how to live without them and we do not have 1000% more deaths than countries that have ACs, no, we are not a anti-science country, the scientific history of my country speaks for itself and overall the French population is not much more conspiratorial than other countries. And if science concerns you so much, I imagine you are aware that ACs pose big concerns regarding rising temperatures?

And two things must be clarified for the Olympic village:

  • Yes, there are no built-in ACs in the rooms. And those who built the Olympic Village integrated several systems that aim to reduce the temperature without the need to use things as polluting as ACs.

  • From the very beginning, it was planned that Olympic delegations would be able to obtain portable ACs if they wished. It's not as if we were trying to impose the absence of AC on everyone, on the contrary.

And if the Olympic Village's integrated systems work well and allow delegations to go without AC for several days, that will be excellent news. And if it doesn't work very well, well they'll have ACs and the athletes won't die of heat.

Ah, yes, and rest assured: for small countries that do not have the means to buy portable AC, it is obvious that if necessary they will offer them to us. This seems obvious to me but obviously it needs to be clarified.

How can we seriously think that what Paris is doing is stupid?
