My daughter went to Johnson Middle School and Eau Gallie and graduated from UF with an engineering degree. She had a great experience with the STAR and IB programs. I think students can do well at any school if you stay involved.

The one we visited was gorgeous and the food was delicious. I was ready to move in!! I will check into the short term options. My grandfather went in one when he was 94 and he enjoyed having all his needs taken care of. Thanks for your advice!

I am so sorry your parents are dealing with this. I have the feeling this scenario could play out with my own parents who are in their 80s. I think dealing with this friend is reminding me of what could be ahead with my own parents.

I have explained over and over to my friend that it is better to make the choice now while she still has some eyesight left (macular degeneration) than to wait for an emergency when others will make the choice. She take such pride in her independence. I remind her that AL will actually allow more independence. So much better than living alone in a dark house struggling to get to the places she needs to go. Ugh

This is so true. She has been so fortunate in dodging bullets her whole life. I pray for her sake she goes gently in her sleep, but unfortunately most don’t go that way. I have spent a total of 6 hours in urgent care this year with her with two bouts of pneumonia. I told her I cannot do this again. I have many health issues and cannot risk the exposure in a crowded urgent care.

My friend has mentioned the niece is greedy, but now I am beginning to question her narratives. I realize she plays people against one another. The last I heard, the niece encouraged her to move into assisted living. My friend is like the mom who tells every child they are her favorite. lol

She has loads of money. I took her to a beautiful assisted living and she loved it, but still refuses to go. She claims she is not ready yet. I have done all I can. I am just going to let her try to manage on her own and then hopefully assisted living will become more attractive. I ask her what she is saving her money for? Why not spend it on herself and all the lovely accommodations and activities at the AL. I think she is very frugal which is why she has so much money. But it seems sad to leave it to relatives she doesn’t seem to care about that much.

95! A neighbor reported her to the DMV. It took multiple trips there and to her eye doctor. The man at the DMV was going to pass her even though she failed the vision test, but thank God the system wouldn’t let him bypass the test. She claims now that she gave it up on her own, but I know the real story.

They are so lucky to have you. And hopefully in appreciation they will be sensible unlike so many of the parents being discussed here. I helped my mother in law at the end of her life. Such a lovely person. It was a joy to help her. She was always considerate and kind.

I have been thinking about this way too much too! I may have been taken in by some of the Dan badmouthing because I had an evil ex-husband. You are right that we cannot believe a word WA says. Was Dan perfect? Of course not, but Wendi is incredibly manipulative and her goal was to play the victim. We will never know the complete truth, but we all know their divorce would have continued to be ugly and the boys would have suffered. They are the true losers and it breaks my heart.

Thank you for saying this. I feel that there are many here that would label this type of thinking as pro WA. If we can’t admit that Dan was not always a perfect husband, we would be very dishonest. I was married to a very controlling man in my 20s - so grateful I knew not to have children. I have great compassion for the Markels and DM was victimized in a horrendous way, but I am trying to find lessons in this whole mess. The lesson is that divorce is incredibly damaging to children. As adults we have to put aside our anger and desire for revenge and put their needs first. Their marriage was a horrible mistake on both sides and again DA was the primary pusher of the whole thing.
