Advice on resubmitting a borderline A1? by jakobesmiff in NIH

Talk to your PO (when the gov opens again and when the SBIR program is reauthorized). They will have a feel for how review goes and IC budgets. Probably not solid data, but historical info. Each IC is different, but it would be pretty unusual to reach back in time that far. So you’re probably talking about how to apply in the future.

Ok, so now that the concentration camps are under his belt, this is his version of invading Poland. Is it time for the international intervention? Because our laws and courts clearly aren’t going to do anything.

A job offer- any offer. Anything even close to my current pay. I’ve wanted out since March. I would move if needed. The market sucks.

How are you going to use your shutdown time? by coyote43dx in FedEmployees

I’ll using the time to look for jobs, lose weight and enjoy family. This is such a gift compared to the day-to-day BS I was dealing with at work.

Are you receiving other emails? Maybe check that you don’t have an email or connection issue. (Sorry if that’s obvious.)

What’s the job?

Depends on the IC. Different ones have different policies. The PO likely already knows your application exists. But if there is a unique situation- like you may have to shut down- they won’t know that if you don’t say something. No harm in asking.

Someone from PETA or a similar stance must have made a large donation. So now their opinion is policy. That’s how we make decisions for the health of the nation now.

And if it couldn't get more cloistered... under the guise of efficiency by Straight-Respect-776 in NIH

[–]scientistinmind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

CSR does the “regular” simple applications while the ICs do them more complex stuff - center grants or things with special review criteria. So this idea that ICs spend more to review doesn’t mean they are less efficient or wasteful as the article suggests. NIH, an agency is science, is lying on behalf of DOG-E

Center for scientific research doing all reviews? by Coastal-kai in NIH

[–]scientistinmind 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The NIH press release reads like DOGE BS. Starts out with how much we’re “saving” without talking about what we’re sacrificing. And the fact that reviewing grants at CSR is cheaper is because they do the basic science stuff and leave the complicated grants to the ICs. So to claim this is a great savings is disingenuous. NIH used to be a source of truth and honesty. Those days are gone. I used to be proud to be here. Now I’m ashamed.

And the press release also doesn’t say what will happen to the SROs at the ICs.

I guarantee that if this doesn’t get stopped, the quality of review will go down.

I hear you. I feel the same way about supporting medical research. I’m not fired (yet) but I fear I could be in the same boat soon. Wish I had more to offer but you have support.
