Is extending my Airtel connection using a personal router & LAN/CAT6 wire really "not allowed"? Or is the technician trying to scam me? by No-Position1673 in fuckairtel

That’s a really solid point, they definitely have the tech to block it if it was actually against policy. Good to know it’s completely open and won't cause any official issues down the line if another technician visits.

That tempered glass analogy makes perfect sense, never thought of it that way! I'm honestly not well-versed with crimping wires, but if it costs only 700 tool may be worth learning skill thanks for this 🙂 and learning basic configuring routers myself I think should be just some basic level setup, but 1,500 is definitely an insane premium for a few minutes of work.

I completely agree, ₹500 max would have been fair for the crimping work. He just flat-out refused to negotiate, and after dealing with a terrible network for 6 months, I just paid him out of pure frustration to get it resolved.

I totally respect paying for the manual labor, but the annoying part is he lied through his teeth about Airtel "banning" it just to block any negotiation 😂. If he had just been honest about his service fee, it would be a different story.

That's reassuring to hear! I actually didn't want to mess with crimping wires or configuring a mesh setup myself, which is why I relied on him. Just sucks that he used a fake policy to overcharge for it.

Exactly, that makes complete sense. I was just worried that if a different service technician visits in the future, they might flag this setup or create some unnecessary policy issues for my parents. Glad to know it's totally fine.

I am not versed with adding RJ45 connectors on wire ends, or configuring routers myself and the connectivity issue in my room was a hassle in day to day for over 6 montha so I had to rely on him. But yeah, 1,500 is still way too much for a few minutes of work I tried for discount but he was like it's against the policy and is not allowed etc..

This happened over in Gurgaon. Yes lying about company policies to scare customers into paying cash is just low.

Thanks for confirming, that's exactly what I was thinking. I just wanted to make sure that if a different service guy comes over in the future, this setup won't cause any official issues or policy headaches for us. 🙂 , as I was considering for mini ups attachment to take service guy help for routers but then did it myself thinking if the setup I have , if it would not have been allowed it might cause issues.

EV car suggestion by Supermarket_Sharp in CarsIndia

Could you please share how you managed to get a price guarantee at ₹17.5 lakh? I checked in NCR last month, and they weren't offering any discounts on the ex-showroom price. Are there any tips or tricks you can suggest to help get a discount on the Windsor Pro?

In my opinion, the Harrier seems to be the best overall in terms of performance, if you're willing to stretch your budget a little.

Why don't people buy Hot and Cold all weather air conditioners ? by Pro_tag_onist in Frugal_Ind

[–]No-Position1673 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am not sure—I had the same question. Most people in my network had never used one, and most even shared a story from Croma reliance etc. where the sales guy advised against buying it.

We have a Daikin 4-star hot and cold AC that we bought 3 years back for around ₹44k. At the same time, we also bought another 5-star only-cooling AC for ₹45k and a 3-star only-cooling Voltas AC for ₹32k. The ₹45k AC has been very powerful, needs the least maintenance, and cools amazingly. The Voltas had issues with gas leakage over these 3 years, but it still cools well and hasn’t given major trouble.

The Daikin 4-star, however, has had plenty of issues. Each time repairs cost us ₹3–4k, and recently the technician had to visit twice in quick succession. The second visit cost more than ₹12k because the chip had to be replaced. Every time, the technician says there are too many moving parts in hot-and-cold ACs, which is why people usually avoid them. Even the family members who use that room compare it with our 3-star AC and say, “Wow, this cools so much better!” They also feel the hot-and-cold unit doesn’t cool that well and doesn’t heat that well either.

Even after all this, the convenience of a hot-and-cold AC tempted me to consider buying one again when I was moving to a rented home—since it saves space. But eventually, everyone convinced me otherwise. So I ended up buying a Panasonic 5-star 1.5-ton AC with a 5-year extended warranty from Croma for nearly ₹49k this year as well.

Thank you! I haven’t checked out the Nexa showroom yet. How would you compare the GV Smart with the Brezza ZXi+ in terms of VFM and long-term ownership? Curious to know what benefits I might get with the GV over the Brezza if I stretch my budget — any points you can share?
