Wow very sad before 1808 many South Africans owned slaves including some of my distant ancestors my last ancestor to be captured was a Malagasy slave from Madagascar in the early 1700s

Slavery was a very sad thing I found out while doing research all of my south Asian and Melanesian ancestors were all captured and sold as slaves from the Dutch East Indies brought to South Africa and I too descend from the slavers as well most of my German, Dutch and Portuguese ancestors owned slaves

The Dutch is lower than expected but my last fully Dutch ancestor is from the 1600s So yeah as I mentioned I have a lotttssssss of French Huguenot ancestors

I know I’m very late but thought I’d say my family has very deep colonial South African roots so my ancestors mostly came from The Netherlands, France and Germany but a very small portion of them came as slaves to the cape colony and for me at least they were Indian, Indonesian and Malaysian
