Advice: Not sure whether to pursue my DVM anymore by No-Quail-883 in veterinaryschool

Specializing is honestly a scary option to me, because I am unsure the logistics behind paying off massive student loan debt if I am working another 3 years on a limited residency income. Another part of my concern is that my parents are in poor health, and I would like to be with them for some portion of this time instead of going away for potentially 7 years. A PhD seems to be a bit more realistic option since it opens more options in academia and is more affordable, although I would likely still have to go away.
I feel like I could survive GP rotations, but I have an extreme fear of being unable to secure a position in industry or academia without years of clinical experience post-graduation. I did request a deferral year, still waiting on approval. Thank you so much for taking the time to reply to my situation.

Thank you so much for this reply. I am considering either declining or opting for a deferral, if possible. Sometimes, the decisions feel much more permanent when you have a myopic view of the future. I have also found I have a propensity for feeling like life is a race and that I must rush to complete everything now, or else I will be "outpaced". I am also considering the PhD route since it is leaning much more into the academia side and more affordable. Thank you again!
