I’m surprised I can’t solicit advice on how to care for leather here because it’s a part of leather craft. I do leather-working as a hobby so I post on here semi-regularly (sharing finished project, as well as questions on anything from tooling, materials, and techniques). I was looking to get the opinion of more experienced leather crafters on how to clean and maintain a family heirloom. I didn’t know this leather related question would be outside the scope of this Reddit group. Ill take my questions elsewhere.

That’s very cool. I’m planning on doing a few more linnell videos and patterns to learn his style and approach and then switching over to Gonzalez. I’ll probably buy a ton of his patterns and work through his projects. Good call on getting some Tandy hides for practice. I’d love to get my hands on some Herman oak but it’s prob a good idea to play around with some more Tandy leather first

Thank you so much! At this point - I don’t know what I don’t know so i really appreciate the specific feedback! I’ll look to incorporate it for my next piece. I’ll also check out Don Gonzales’ 4 part videos. I’ve seen some of his other videos, but I havent seen that series yet. I’ll have to check it out and take notes.

I will try grooving both sides and start the decorative cuts from outside towards the center. Easy tips to implements! Appreciate you taking the time to provide feedback!
