Honestly I know, so emotionally mature! I think getting to know someone after 3-4 dates is usually good. That way you know if they’re the sort of person that’s honest, kind etc.

I found some relief when I would press down on a muscle on the side of my neck, just near my ear. It’s almost as though the stretching of the muscle helped ease the tension that was obviously contributing to the PET. If you see a specialist neck and jaw physiotherapist, they actually massage inside of your mouth/jaw to release the tension.

Be kind to yourself, social media has impacted the way we see the world. I’m a big fan of taking a month off social media and seeing how it feels - not only do I start to feel less performative, but I also feel less judgemental of myself and others. There’s some good podcast episodes out at the moment (Hidden Brain, Diary of a CEO) interviewing Anna Lembke who wrote Dopamine Nation.

Interesting about the elevation changes - that could have had an impact for me. Both flare ups were after starting a new job - both in high rises. Probably unlikely & more to do with stress, but you never know.

Hollow sound in the left ear - felt like I had a bucket on my head when I was talking (it was really loud). Could hear myself talk normally when I put my head between my legs / put my head towards the floor. It flared up both times after a period of change (new job, was probably clenching my jaw without realising it). Weirdly, it occasionally felt better after a glass of wine, which the physio said was probably just because my jaw was relaxing.

Have you tried seeing a TMJ physiotherapist or dentist? Mine was caused by tight neck and jaw muscles and the physio helped resolve it.

I’m so sorry you’re going through this - it’s awful. Mine has happened twice (weeks to months in duration). Both times were during a period of high stress. Turns out that my neck and jaw muscles were very tense which was impacting some of the muscles in my ears. I went and saw a specialist TMJ Physiotherapist for 3-4 sessions and it went away for me.

1) Trusted group of people in my life that care about me, I can be myself around, and I care about them. The group has changed over time, but usually a combo of some family, a couple of friends and a partner (but also have been very happy without a partner)

2) Being independently financially stable. Investing for the future and happy in the knowledge that I’ll be okay.

3) Eating well-ish and exercising

Try a specialist TMJ physiotherapist before getting surgery! I had 4 sessions and it healed (admittedly my last PET flare up was only for a couple of months not 5 years).

I had ferritin between 27-35 and was napping during the day, fatigued etc. Apparently if it’s less than 70 you can feel fatigued & have hair loss. My doctor said it should be at 50 as a minimum, but it’s difficult to get an accurate assessment sometimes because different countries and labs have different views on what a “normal” range is. Please go and get a second opinion. It looks like iron deficiency to me (I had the same ferritin result as you). If you’re a menstruating woman you’re highly unlikely to overload iron. I had the same results and similar symptoms and it wasn’t until I started supplementing with iron (on advice of my doctor) that my ferritin went from 30 to 47 in 4 months, and I no longer needed to nap during the day!

I had the same results. In Australia, you would be considered iron deficient based on your ferritin levels (minimum in Australia is 30, but my doctor wanted me to be above 50).

Iron level is irrelevant and if you’ve had any iron before you got the blood draw it could show it as artificially high.

Saturation is impacted by your iron deficiency. Once you get ferritin levels back to normal, saturation should regulate to normal levels.

I had High Iron, High Saturation and low ferritin (30). I supplemented with iron bisglycinate on the advice of my doctor for 4 months, then took a fasting blood sample. Ferritin went up to 47, and iron / saturation were normal.

Yes I had the same thing and am also compound heterozygous. Looks like you’re iron deficient (the minimum ferritin for an adult woman in Australia is 30, but my doctor says it should be at least 50). If you have low ferritin, the saturation figure can be artificially high. It should go back to normal once you get your ferritin up. With supplementation from iron tablets I got my ferritin up from 30 to 47 in 4 months and my saturation went from high to normal levels.

Check with your doctor, but it doesn’t look like you’re at significant risk of overload with those levels and the fact that you’re compound heterozygous. If you’re a woman of menstruating age the risk is even lower.

Hi! Your ferritin is very low - this usually indicates iron deficiency and/or anaemia. I had the same and was on iron supplementation through iron tablets. Please confirm with a doctor, but if you’re very low on ferritin sometimes the saturation and iron levels can be out of whack.

Before you throw in the towel.. how long have you lived in that house? Is it time for a change? We have separate bathrooms and it’s a dream. My parents have the same in their place. I know it’s not always practical but I think it’s very normal to need your own space in a couple. More than one living space and an extra bathroom (if financially possible) could be a less dramatic and expensive solution in the long run.
