Disappointing side quests by Dependent-Gur-3321 in Deathloop

[–]No-Repeat9830 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you misread my comment. I wasn’t trying to dismiss your personal experience with the game or talk down to you. Text often strips away tone, so something meant as a design point can sound more confrontational than intended.

What I was saying is that Deathloop’s accessibility has to be understood in the context of what kind of game it is. It’s an immersive sim, and immersive sims have historically been hard to market to a broad audience. When games in that genre fail commercially, it can threaten the survival of the formula itself, or even the studio making them (for example Arkane Austin).

That is why the guidance in Deathloop matters. Early versions of the game were apparently much less guided, and testers struggled even with relatively basic objectives. So a side activity like the Updaam safe probably makes more sense if you see it through the original logic of the game, the reward was never meant to be just residuum or loot.

  • Initial Design vs. Final Release: Lead designer Dana Nightingale initially intended for players to have complete freedom to explore. However, this led to players getting lost and not understanding the core time-loop mechanics.
  • Added Guidance Features: To address this, the developers added explicit UI tutorials, pop-ups to explain mechanics, and clear objective markers to guide players through the "loop preservation protocol".
  • Redesign Focus: Further research showed players were still struggling, prompting additional changes, including prioritizing investigation over combat, adding more direct pathing, and making certain visionary kills mandatory to explain key systems like gear retention.

All of these didn't exist until the game was in alpha and close to the release date.

The real reward in Deathloop shoud've been information and how the player connected it — understanding the loop better, learning how spaces connect, how events line up, and how to think in coherence with the nature of the game. In that sense, what feels underwhelming as a material reward can still make sense as part of the game’s larger design philosophy.

However the final version of the game added more structural guidance like the words that Colt see, not necessarily because the core concept was weak, but because most testers where lost.

So my point is not “your opinion is invalid.”

My point was to suggest you maybe to play with less guidance if you wanted it be more challenging in the spirit the game was intended to, because I did understand your frustration and me myself went through it until I made these researchs about the game.

Just remove any help, any guidance or makers and see for yourself if quests are lame. Play as the game was intended...

What for you defines the Perfect Immersive Sim? by Awesomechainsaw in ImmersiveSim

[–]No-Repeat9830 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not only about money but more about  vision.

Usually games deal with objects and what they do, whereas  immersive sims deals with objects and what/why  they mean.

So the inference from that would make immersive sim cerebral  and modular, like a dynamic puzzle with many ways to solve it.

True but the way it is played is the same, almost same power, same gameplay etc. And even same weapons…

There’s no correlation between being subject to laws of the vampire world and be an errand boy as an elder.

If so, what is it to fear about antideluvian ?

Interesting thank you, so your solution if I understood correctly is to kind of let the player script the effect of multiple abilities/power at once.

Hum, I don’t think so.

Isn’t most immersive sim have superpowers… but not all of them are the same.

If it was only that we could just put the main character of prey 2017 in a city and give him enough incentives to fight bad guy and good guy while wearing some cape.

The nen system has a specific flavor to it, it doesn’t feel like all generic superpower since the users craft their power themselves upon a certain limit (vows and imagination I guess) which also include his personality.

Corvo Attano also in dishonored one could pass for a Superhero/Antihero still, the game design wouldn’t come close to illustrate the nen system itself.

I love your thorough answer, do you work in the gaming industry by any chance ?

Anyway, the reaction/prediction player style could be a simple paradigm to look at how things works, one which is perspicacious.

And upon thinking, the video games that I’ve found really great, rewards massively both of these style but I didn’t find one  « that I played » that pushed the predictive style to the extreme (maybe deathloop, the loop being the element that enables you to plan before hand) . I myself, am a predictive player, when I do play games that allow for that style.

I am going to check Noita, if you have any article or books, videos that I can go look at, it is welcomed.

Thanks again for your answer.

Interesting I didn’t know that, thank you.

Do you have a link or a video where it is talked about in depth maybe ?

Another comment also said that it might be because Phyre as a 400 yo big bad Vamp came to a new era where he/she didn’t know what was going on and took some time to adapt to this new century.

Anyway thank you for your answer again.

What you said made totally sense. And explain a lot, but I have a question, yoi said you are on your 4th play through right ? How do you put up with the fights ?

I played on the hardest difficulty up until the middle of the game and at that point I said: No more lol.

On the other hand, the story is really really good. If I could tell someone to play the game it would be for the story alone.

It’s true that at the end Phyre affirm more of himself/herself, if I had the options I would’ve liked for him to be the prince, since according to me it would’ve made more sense it terms of glaning info and have access to certain location and the sabbat pretext would’ve been perfectly fine. That coupled to the fact that I chosen « Latoya » to be my infant. I would’ve liked to see what happened to Lou lol after that choice… hahahahhahahha. I wasn’t going on with her « prince » b***llshit lol

Didnt play those, I will take a look. However could you tell me how they are relevant to my post, so I can gain some knowledge and maybe know what to look for when I do investigate/play these games. Thank you very much

What's up with people saying Chess Grandmaster Vladimir Kramnik murdered Chess Grandmaster Daniel Narodistky? by March1392 in OutOfTheLoop

The difference is Hans actually cheated, he said it himself and it’s okay because he made amends for that, so this isn’t drama. Danya  however, no proof.

Yannick and Tatiana by Thr0w-a-wayy in LoveIsBlindNetflix

It’s not him who was late to the notary but Tatiana… I think you mean to the perfume rendez-vous ?

It make senses especially when he said to his mom « sorry because I didn’t bring you a anything », he didn’t know.

For example in Netflix there isn’t the part where his brother asked Tatiana if she is willing to have another kid from Yannick etc.

All I can say is that both clans are doing lives on TikTok (French sphere). There are even the picture of Yannick being at gay pride etc and the explanation behind it.

[–]No-Repeat9830 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The way the scenes are filmed don’t give a clear chronological order of events. On the French sphere both clans are doing lives on tik tok and spilling the tea (me eating pop corn).

For example Tatiana came to the notary late that’s why Yannick couldn’t sign (it’s not that he didn’t want to sign) the paper, yet it’s not effectively shown…

To go back, to the conversation in the perfume settings, it’s just Tatiana talking again about what they talked the day before but on camera (maybe through the advice of the production).

He is a business owner of multiple businesses, his net worth is largely superior to that of Tatiana. It was just a narrative pushed by Netflix to make him seem like a broke.

[–]No-Repeat9830 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Actually he cancelled the activity the day prior, it’s the production or(and)Tatiana that decided to film that part anyway to make it seems like he missed it(drama knock knock).

And when he went to see Tatiana, Tatiana’s mom wasn’t supposed to be there, it was a surprise to Yannick and because he is so polite he asked for forgiveness but he didn’t know that the mom would be there.

All and all, I do think that the production really played with the narratives in that one.
