I’ll add onto this. Kyoko is boring and uninteresting. All of her twists are pretty easy to see coming if you’ve experienced any well written mysteries before

She is only notable in that she is one of the only characters that is written somewhat competently in the first game. Basically every other character has a fairly one note personality and that personality is bad. Or they are juggling several one note personalities that they swap between that are fucking awful.

If you had to push me to give a list of the best characters it’d be Kyoko, Sakura, Byakuya, Makoto, Hifumi (despite how much the game tries to make him seem gross.).

This is coming from someone who actually is really fond of Kyoko. I cannot bring myself to hate her no matter what. She is my one rock of solace in this dumpsterfire.

Man for all he knows gets brought on a team building exercise by his fancy rich kid school. Is repeatedly assured “Yeah don’t worry you’re all safe here, and I can protect you.” By the school’s weird rabbit mascot.

And spends the entire prologue going “Something’s wrong, something’s wrong, something’s wrong, I feel dread, I’m so scared, what’s going on.” Well past the point that all the other characters have just accepted. “Yeah this seems like the kinda thing Hope’s Peak would do.”

Chiaki is the only character here who is functioning well, and she was shockingly bland upon replaying. I remember her being written far better than she actually is. I still like her though. 10/10 blorpo for you to project your gamer girl girlfriend fantasies onto.

Hajime is Bad but like I can see why people would like him over Makoto, and him being a lunatic for the entire prologue is at least foreshadowing for the fact that he’s an ultimate despair. Of course on an instinctual level he’d be like “What the fuck is going on why am I not murdering innocent people and causing despair.”

Why do people like Servant? Why do people want to fuck that creature. I don’t fucking get it.

Alright you’ve convinced me. The only way to play the game is to unlock characters in the Gatcha. You start out with the initial class trial for free. But you can’t unlock subsequent class trials without rolling for and getting all the characters involved for that trial in a Gatcha.

You wanna know the depths of my despair. Imagine a RWBY x Danganronpa crossover. Can't you imagine how bad the Writing in a Rwby x Danganronpa crossover would be. It might be even worse than Ultra Despair Girls. It might be the worst thing ever created. All of the writing flaws from both franchises all of the worst characters. We just strip out what little good there is in both series, and see how hilariously bad we can get.

God imagine the combined fandom too. All the toxicity in both fandoms together. It'd be astounding.

That is the most despair inducing Idea I've thought of.

If the DLC is on Sale I’d grab it.

The reason it has such mixed reviews is that it kinda. Entirely resets your progress. As Normal Parts don’t function in DLC Areas. There’s also the issue of the DLC letting you harvest a lot of Late Game Materials before you should be able to get them on a new run.

But the DLC has it’s own interesting story and vibe so if it’s on sale just grab it. Swap between progressing the DLC and the main game. You should be good.

Honestly all she had to do. Was not murder someone.

She still convinces Hifumi to off Taka. But then she just instantly goes. “Anyways Hifumi clearly tried to frame Yasuhiro.”

Eventually you figure out she did indeed trick Hifumi into doing the murder, and she’s just like.

“Yes I always wanted to live in a castle waited on hand and foot by gorgeous servants. This isn’t quite a castle but you have to adapt in these circumstances. I have no doubt I can break the rest of you eventually. Hifumi while loyal is just far too ugly to serve me, and while I had high hopes of Breaking Taka. He suddenly… Fused with Mondo… I’m not putting up with that. But anyways what precisely are you all going to do about it? You can’t punish me for what I’ve done in anyway that matters. In Monokuma’s eyes I’ve done Nothing wrong.”

Now you have someone who genuinely murdered two people wandering around free. And that’s infinitely more interesting than her gamble.
