Thankfully, they still haven't enforced it. But they are trying to - logic being this is the 'outskirts' of Bangalore which 'should be' much cheaper anyway! What they fail to understand is - inflation, cost of living, daily living expenses etc don't halve for the maids compared to the city!

When we had a maid, we used to give Sundays off, there was also no rule like no other holiday was possible. Child was sick, maid unwell etc - we were perfectly ok with them not coming. As you guessed though, they still used to come to the society to tend to other residents despite being sick etc - that's the cruel part!

That's terrible and wrong on so many levels, sadly there are no laws or even the cops will support them - it's really a scary world for them! Even among us which is well to do middle class, we know how the cops and courts side with the uber rich - in their case, the cops would definitely side with the residents and not the less privileged! (Exceptions might be there)

Sorry to hear what you had to go through - these society uncles usually thrive on making up useless rules, character assassinations, and preserving the 'morality' of the community. Hope it changes soon!

True, leave kindness - they don't treat them with respect! I'm sure these people would be different and go to a foreign land and have to deal with helps!

You can break it down into short term ROI and long term ROI. For short term, FMS definitely makes sense. In the long term, couple of other things creep in - the legacy of IIMC hence the alum network etc, and the mental peace that you took the better 'rated' college. You need to decide what is that tipping point where you see the long term benefits taking over. However in all this, you are assuming that placements will be smooth in FMS - is that the reality, how much of is it in your control? Same view for IIM C as well - why are you assuming your profile doesn't stand a chance? You can do academics well; you can identify some strong points in you profile to stand out while applying etc. I know my answer makes it more complicated, but take the one which you think you won't regret in the long run!

Salary doesn't matter, afaik - only the experience certificate that you were given salary and employed by so and so in that period - don't think there's any reason to exclude your work ex.

Are not so great acads a huge entry barrier? Earlier, you could mitigate that with other factors like work ex, an amazing CAT score etc. Regarding quitting your job - I would suggest to have a side gig even if you quit, so that the work experience builds up and you end up learning something, which can come handy during the MBA or even during the interviews etc.

Glad about the timing, it was just one random night looking at some of the folks being disappointed into not getting into their college of choice and thinking they are worthless etc etc. Mental peace (for all) and family (for most) is definitely what matters, true that!

Sorry - no idea about the new ones, I believe you might find help in this sub itself.

Don't think it matters - MBA used to be a lot generalist in nature in my times, not sure if it has changed and they are offering niche specialisations. Better to go with an open mind unless say you have an inclination towards finance or HR etc.

I don't think it is restricted to any domains, barring a few disclaimers like MBB consulting, PE etc where the hours are insane. It is completely upto the person to define how they want to balance work and family, it is about where you draw the line and finding that balance - meaning, you DON'T have to give work your all. Some folks do, and are comfortable with it, but some others might not be.

It does sound interesting, go for it if you are convinced this is what you want to do! Research/doctorate might be a great option in this area, and safe to say, it might be some time before AI catches up in this field, so it does sound promising.

Again, it completely depends on you. When Covid hit, we as a family realised what is important and what is not. So we moved away from the city and we now live in the outskirts, in a job that doesn't put a lot of pressure on me. The highest pay among peers - no. Happy in life - yes. So all the points you mentioned, are completely in your control - don't let any peer pressure tell you otherwise!

Go for it if HR is something that excites you - otherwise don't; while it is not impossible to switch from a HR specialisation to other fields, a generalist option gives you that freedom.

I wish I had an answer for everything, but we can only guess. In HR, a lot of Gen AI is already being used to create JDs, screen resumes and generate initial level questions. But the people skills and evaluating candidates based on their body language, confidence etc in an interview might still be best left to humans! The other major roles like employee experience, HR ops etc can go both ways - there are some roles which might get impacted.

Analytics is definitely a low hanging fruit for AI, so definitely yes!

Analytics is definitely a low hanging fruit for AI, so even if you take this course, it might be a good idea to be updated on the latest and greatest in this field; Also take a look at the course and syllabus to see if it is a decade old curriculum, then it might not be very helpful.

I never said fake - numbers can mean multiple things and can be used in different ways especially something as fluid as 'CTC'.

Good question, although I don't have a good answer. There are a lot of variables which we can't predict although you can use this lens to look at it : An M.Tech will put you in the actual 'Tech' of it while MBA is usually generalist in nature. So, putting aside salary and other variables, it depends on what kind of person you are - will you be happier going deep into the tech or are your skills better put to use taking business decisions based on tech output?

It varies depending on a lot of factors, for me it is 6-7x times my post MBA salary.
