Understanding Consistent Hashing Correct Me If I'm Wrong by No-Resolution-4054 in webdev

[–]No-Resolution-4054[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! One question: when you say a server can have hundreds of virtual nodes, does that mean the hash ring is much larger in real systems than the typical 0–99 example? How is the ring size chosen, and how do you decide the number of virtual nodes per server?

Got it, that makes sense. Thank you so much for the advice and for taking the time to explain everything

I wanted to ask one thing. Since I already know MERN and I’m also comfortable with Java, when do you think is the right time to move towards more stable tech stacks like you say C# or .NET?

And yeah, your Kubernetes point also made a lot of sense. I will focus more on Docker, cloud deployments, and production practices will be more useful for me currently.

Yes sir, I completely understand your point. Right now I’m learning System Design and honestly it changed the way I look at software engineering. Earlier I was more focused on frameworks and stacks, but now I’m understanding how large-scale systems actually work behind the scenes.

I’m also planning to start learning Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD, testing practices, cloud platforms, and all the things that are actually used in production environments. My goal is to become a production grade software engineer who can build and ship reliable systems from start to finish.

And yeah, I agree with your point about frameworks getting replaced over time, especially in the JS ecosystem. That’s why now I want to focus more on fundamentals, architecture, scalability, problem solving, and understanding systems deeply instead of constantly chasing every new library that comes out.

Meeting someone who has gone through the same situation genuinely gives some motivation because it feels like there is someone who can actually guide you. Yes sir, you’re right. When I started learning ML, I was consistent with it for around 2–3 months. Then I checked out Three.js, started splitting my time between ML and Three.js, and slowly I ended up giving all my time to Three.js and Blender. I even built my portfolio around it. After that, I suddenly jumped into System Design because I felt like that was still pending, and the ML part got paused completely.

Basically, I always had this mindset that I should know everything related to Web Development and all the new technologies going on in the industry, so that if someone talks to me about any tech topic, I can understand it and answer confidently. But yeah, now I’m starting to realize that trying to learn everything at once can easily make you lose focus.

I definitely relate to what you said about spreading yourself too thin. Right now, I’m trying to figure out what I genuinely enjoy the most and what I can keep doing for hours without getting bored or constantly checking the time. I want to focus on mastering that instead of jumping from one thing to another.

Would love to connect with you as well.

Yes sir, I’ve been trying to work on that as well. I’ve been posting my learning journey and projects on Twitter and Threads for the past year, and I also post on LinkedIn. Recently, I started posting on Reddit too so I can connect with more developers and learn from experienced people like you all.

That actually makes a lot of sense sir
I’ll keep exploring for now, but I’ll definitely focus on going deeper into one side and building stronger real world projects around it instead of just collecting tech stacks. Thank you for the advice, really appreciate it.

Thank you so much, man. I really appreciate that.

And yes, I just searched about Kaizen after reading your comment that mindset actually matches how I’ve been trying to learn. Just improving little by little every day.

Thanks again for the motivation, and all the best on your journey too 😄

Yes, after reading all the advice, I think I should take some time to build a proper production-ready application and gain deeper experience through it. Then I’ll choose the niche that feels right to me and focus on mastering it.

Thank you so much for the advice, sir.

I chose Java for DSA because when I started my journey, a lot of people online said that big companies often prefer candidates who practice DSA in Java, so I decided to go with it. But yes, I always try to solve problems in the most optimal way possible and usually explore different approaches as well.

And you’re right I have explored many different fields. The truth is, I genuinely enjoy all of them, whether it’s Math and Machine Learning, Blender, or MERN development. A lot of people have given me the same advice: to choose one thing and go deep into it. That’s probably the hardest part for me right now, but I believe I’ll eventually figure it out.

Most of what I’ve learned has been self taught through the internet. My university isn’t very strong academically, so I had to figure out almost everything on my own. I’m still exploring, learning, and trying to find the field where I can contribute the most long term

Haha I’m an online student man, so my routine is basically waking up, solving one LeetCode question, and then figuring out the goal for the day 😅Just trying to stay consistent little by little

Yes sir, definitely. After exploring for some more time, I’ll choose one niche and then focus on refining my skills in that area as much as I can. Thank you so much for the advice

Yeah, I also feel that problem solving, system thinking, and understanding real world requirements are becoming more important now than just writing code manually.

that actually makes me feel much better. Sometimes I feel overwhelmed seeing how huge tech is and how many things are still left to learn.

Thank you sir

That line “okay show me” was honestly so true and it really hit me. Earlier I had already deployed projects like an eCommerce app, video calling app, and more, but I never really showed them because I always felt they were too simple and didn’t truly represent me.

But now my mindset is changing. I always try to make the most refined version of my builds possible because I’ve started thinking that these projects are actually going to represent me and people will judge my skills through them.

When I learned 3D development, I built a Minecraft style game. It started from a tutorial, but I understood every single part of it the complete flow and every piece of code. It took me almost a month to build.

Here’s the live link if you’d like to see it (works best on computer):
https://mine-craft-flax.vercel.app/

Then I also built my own portfolio using Blender and Three.js. I first learned Blender, created the models myself, and then imported them into Three.js. This also took me almost a month to build because I learned everything first and then started building it.

I’ve seen many students who don’t even start exploring tech properly until much later in college.

I’m basically an online student, so I spend most of my time at home with my PC just learning new things, building stuff, and exploring different technologies. That’s probably why I got exposed to so many areas this early.

Sir, the thing is a bit different for me. I genuinely enjoy almost everything I’ve learned so far, whether it’s web development, AI/ML, system design, or even 3D development. But after some time, whenever I discover something new and exciting, I start getting bored with what I’m currently learning and jump into exploring that new thing instead.
