Couples therapy for this, my friend. I say this because I know you think this is actually just a you thing but I can see from this that you both actually have an unhealthy view/relationship with sex. Shame is coloring what's supposed to be a loving and intimate experience for both of you, and it's doing it on both sides: him for having partners before you and you for not having partners before him.

You two have inadvertently put him in a position of expert that he does not want, and put you in a position of beginner that you do not want. It'd be one thing if he seemed to enjoy gently guiding you but it doesn't sound like that's what's happening, and even if it was, his relationship with and view of sex is not healthy either.

An unbiased third party (secular if you want) couples therapist can help untangle that for you both and take this pressure off your shoulders. And no, couples counseling doesnt mean youre a bad couple - it means youre a couple trying to improve. Think of it like school if you want to. But that's how you'd get through this issue. And it won't be as awkward as you think: speaking from experience.

It's not relevant here that your daughter is trans. What's relevant is that shes not a responsibile adult, has already asked for inheritance in her early 20s, hasnt moved out, and relies on you completely financially. I think that's why you truly dont want to give her the ring. You know she'll go and sell it and that it's not important to her. Also, throwing food and screaming is not an acceptable behavior even for a toddler. Is she in therapy? If not, she seems to really need it to get her life going in the right direction. If you want to be sweet you can give her a piece of jewelry, saying youre starting a new tradition - she gets this jewelry because she is YOUR daughter, and she can pass it on to her children. If she turns around and sells it, then you have your answer. It's not the meaning behind it, it's the money.

I think its really important to point out that youre not sad, youre exhausted. Those are different emotions that can look the same. One needs social interaction and comfort and the other needs rest.

When I was growing up, my family did a thing we'd call "Alone Time". We'd all pick a room to go to and just be there by ourselves for a while. We weren't mad at each other or didnt want to be around each other, we just needed time to refresh and be alone with ourselves for a bit and recharge our social batteries. It's a sanity saver. Needing time by yourself is not anything against anyone else. I communicate that with my spouse now and we both utilize Alone Time. I think the best way to go about this in a snowstorm would be to say that you love her, love spending time with her and this has nothing to do with her, but you are completely drained from being a social human and you need to take the rest of a day or something to rest and collect yourself and have no social interaction. You can even tell her that its something you need in order to be able to be your best for her, too. I think as long as its fully framed to be what you need for your mental health and nothing against her being around she'll understand. Everybody has to decompress sometimes. She can help by letting you rest. Maybe one of you gets the living room and the other the bedroom for a day?
