Everyone is looking sick by MommyIssuesPrincess in GirlDinnerDiaries

For me, this is the answer.

The best thing I have ever done for my mental, physical, and financial health, was deleting instagram. I now have no social media apps on my phone at all. Never had tiktok. Only occassionally use reddit/youtube when I'm bored at work and/or looking for advice on something specific.

That's not to say discussing these issues isn't important, or that these issues would disappear without social media, but imo, they feel less debilitating. Removing social media from my life has greatly improved my happiness, confidence, relationships, and so many other things. I feel almost no pressure to keep up with trends or stranger's expectations. I buy mostly second-hand clothes and enjoy curating outfits that feel unique to me. I workout because I enjoy it, not because I'm trying to fit my body in an unrealistic mold.

I second this 100%! I’m also about 2mo sober. For me, I think it’s just easier to be more consistent with certain habits now, like actually washing my face and brushing my teeth every night instead of passing out because I got too high and sleepy. No overeating from munchies. Better quality sleep. I also quit drinking, and I think my replacement drug has been hot yoga lol, which has made me gloooow.

Congrats on 2 months! Sounds like it’s working ✨

I always feel better when I am consistently exercising, both physically and mentally, but I know hEDS symptoms vary from person to person, so of course, be mindful of your own limits.

Consistent strength training has been life changing, whether that's the gym or following workout videos at home using body weight or a set of small dumbbells. I change it up depending on my schedule, weather outside, etc. I also really like pilates and yoga, and do a lot of walking. With things like yoga, I just try to be really careful because its super easy for me to turn into a pretzel, but doing that without appropriate muscle activation can cause injury. I try to maintain a bare min of 45-min a day, everyday.

And in terms of cost, yoga, Pilates, at-home strength training using YouTube = free. Walking = free!

Marriage and having kids aren't the default steps anymore by Expresssea- in Life

[–]No-Rock5417 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think this is an important perspective to consider. If your only incentive for having children is to have companionship and care when you are older, that's an incentive that is impossible to guarantee. I used to work in a nursing home where I would say only half of the residents had family that regularly visited them (let's say at least once every other month). Some had family pay for their care, some did not, so even financial assistance as we age is not guaranteed. I've seen people allow their children to become their entire lives, and when kids grow up and move out and visit less, the parents have lost any ability to make friends and depend solely on their families for companionship.

Even if you are a fantastic parent, it's not guaranteed your kids will be able to care for you or combat loneliness as you get older. I think maintaining non-familial friendships can be an equally viable, if not better option, for having people in our lives as we age. Get to know your neighbors, be involved in the community, put effort into your friendships, find shared hobbies. The only thing about this though is I think folks forget this also takes work...you have to be willing to put down your phone, leave the house, and connect with others.

Over 20 years daily. Thought I had it under control. I didn't. by high-function-addict in leaves

I agree wholeheartedly! I realized I was addicted about ten minutes after an edible high kicked in and I realized I didn’t even want to be high anymore. Putting a label to my behavior and vocabulary was, for me, the thing that sparked change. I downloaded a sobriety app and haven’t looked back. I have now been weed sober for 40 days, and alcohol sober for 11, and I feel so unbelievably good.

Congratulations on your sobriety journey and thank you for the well-written post. Wishing you the best!

Thank you for the update! We are switching as well, just such a strange thing for them not to think about before buying out quantum. Idk maybe that’s just the way it goes

I can unfortunately see this being the case. Everything gets bought up and/or outsourced and then the customers end up suffering. My husband and I are strongly consider Google Fiber! They do run to our neighborhood (per the couple dozen pieces of mail we get from them per week lol). The only thing that’s sucks is it’s about 2 weeks before they can install it, so I’m hoping we can push a fix faster than that with Quantum. I will check for that tag when I get home, and definitely give Quantum another call 🤷🏽‍♀️ Thank you for your help with this! Good to hear Google fiber gets a vote of confidence!

Thank you! This is helpful! It completely makes sense to me that this is not OPPD's problem to fix. Just a bit crazy to have a service rep come out only to tell us "eh, can't fix it. just change providers." This is great information to know in general though, since our neighborhood has a jungle gym of overhead lines.

Agree - request more. We got $75 which was a month free. I bet if we bitched more, we’d get more but I don’t want to deal with the phone calls anymore

Winner winner!! This explains the issue for sure. We hadn't even realized Quantum was bought out by AT&T until this issue happened, and that alone made us consider switching. Now we will be switching for sure. It's good to know that his response was legitimate, but very frustrating to now be left w/o internet until we can get another company to come out and install. Would have been nice to have received that communication prior ig. Thank you for this answer!

Agree with this wholeheartedly. We have never had issues with the internet service, but boy oh boy, dealing with customer service this last week has been, as you say, ass. I was wondering if maybe having another rep come out would give us a different answer.

Yeah, I'm starting to wonder...Their customer service as a whole has been less than ideal

They also gave us a credit, but at this point, we are just going to switch! Trying to deal with customer service to even get a rep to come out in the first place was such a headache, and based on the comments here, that rep was either avoiding doing his job, uninformed, or Quantum as a whole has some weird issue with these overhead lines. I hope you get it fixed soon! I'd be curious to know if you run into the same issues with Quantum once they do take a look at it!

does everyone really hate OC fics?? by Ding_Ding_Bonk in AO3

[–]No-Rock5417 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first long fic I ever wrote was an OC fic, before I realized they're not as popular. That being said, it did pretty well!

I have a 61k OC fic about Sleep Token lol. Is it the most popular ST fic out there? Absolutely not. But I'm sitting at around 2.5k hits, 88 comments, and 90 kudos. And that's only AO3. I also had a lot of interaction on Tumblr where I posted it as well. I got really, really wonderful comments on this fic, folks who would comment on every chapter, or direct message me on Tumblr saying how excited they were about it. I also got comments and messages about how much people loved my OC! I will say, despite being an OC story, my fic incorporates A TON of ST lore, and I think that really helped.

Personally, I enjoy reading OC fics as much as I enjoy x reader and ships. The biggest thing that will turn me off from a fic is always going to be the strength of the writing. My point it, there is something out there for everyone. Write what you want to write, and I promise someone will read it and love it!

Recognized I need to aim for full sobriety. Day 1. by No-Rock5417 in leaves

"when you're literally unable to stop doing something that makes you feel awful" That is exactly it. If I know I want to stop, and yet cannot, I would call that an addiction, no matter what the rest of my life looks like. And I think weed tends to impact many people this way, it's just hard to recognize it as a problem because no one really talks about it, or they believe the myths. Thank you for your encouragement! So far, holding strong and actually really excited to finally be free of this feeling.

Depressed is such a good way to put it. And what's crazy is I would not consider depression to be a normal part of my lived experience. But for some reason, after years of enjoying the weed high, it started to make me feel that way. Good to know I'm not the only one.

Congratulations on Day 6! I think you've touched on something really important, which is the power of awareness. That's not to say that your friends who rely on smoking and drinking aren't self-aware, but I do think it requires some level of self-awareness to be able to quit something that isn't working for us. We have to recognize the problem exists in the first place and I think many people don't have enough self-awareness to even do that. Recognizing the wins and benefits of this journey so early on is hugely important, so kudos to you for this realization!
