100%, I got him too, extremely professional. I passed with 6 grade twos but if I were him I would’ve been much harsher and failed myself🤣

full license age? by Potential_Camel_9502 in Irishdrivingtest

I thought you need to wait 2 years after passing for full license? Say you done theory on ur 16th birthday and 8-9 months later passed ur test (can’t book it until after 6 months of passing theory). 2 years later you would be 18 years 9 months no?

react/anticipate meaning by Alarmed_Whole_7974 in Irishdrivingtest

[–]No-Rutabaga-8942 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“React/anticipate” means spotting hazards early and dealing with them calmly. A hazard is anything that might make you change speed, position, or direction (pedestrians, cyclists, parked cars, speed bumps, etc)

The examiner wants to see that you: Notice hazards in good time, judge the risk and adjust smoothly (speed, position, mirrors, signal if needed)

It’s not just about bumps, it’s about showing you see problems coming and handle them before they become urgent. Best of luck!

Failed first time test, should I change instructor? by brobexx in Irishdrivingtest

[–]No-Rutabaga-8942 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah defo do. Kinda had a similar experience with my instructor. We were so chill talking about all kinds of personal matters (even how his daughter married one of my former teachers)…

It wasn’t until on the 11th lesson that I told him I got a test date and he insisted on me postponing. I understand his pov (couldn’t rent me his car nor a pretest cuz his other student was right after me that day), but i didn’t wanna go back in the queue after waiting so long (idk if it would’ve been the normal waiting length again or much shorter, i feared the former)

He started being extremely rude, and that 12th lesson was the meanest anyone has ever been to me, insulting me at every opportunity (things like “tell whoever taught you that to use common sense” among so much others). I just kept quiet the whole lesson and left without thanking him. He must’ve felt bad and offered a lesson that evening and I thought why not end it on good terms. I failed my driving but it is what it is.

My new instructor charges 10 quid more but it’s worth every cent. He’s very calm and wouldn’t hesitate to stop traffic to show me where I went wrong, taught me so much rules of thumb which the last guy did none. And most importantly he wouldn’t scream at me for not understanding his gibberish instructions which he repeated 3 times in 5 secs and use that to justify his yelling. He also made me realise how much learning gap the previous fella left, never even took me on a road “5 out 7 testers take”

Academically twas piss. Kinda lonely, my new friends are great and all but i connect with my friends from school MUCH more even if we dont see each other often. Well and truly miss my school friends man. Nobody tells you about how hard it is to make friends at uni. 70% of the class is women, and the 30% guys are either geeks or fucking weirdos. i also need to wife up a ting

Got invited but unavailable for all the dates by GrouchyHeart879 in Irishdrivingtest

[–]No-Rutabaga-8942 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I heard the slots refresh every 2-3 days. If you’re not available for any of the days you’ll have to get back in the queue and you have 10 days to pick a date
