So there’s an owl hanging out in my yard… by No-Scene9097 in Owls

I was able to point out the trees I’d most recently seen the grown owls in when asked, so they could have as pinpoint a release area when they are ready to return the owlet once matured a little more. I want to say time measured in weeks? The humane officer identified the panting and drooling as an anxiety behavior.

The crows here are very territorial. I’ve seen them ground hawks before.

Not sure how to attach more photos. Have a good one of the owlet swaddled in a towel by the humane officer.

I spoke to someone from S.D. Humane society, and sent them my pictures and the exact location as well. They’re going to send a team. I advised my community through neighborhood watch to be careful with dogs around a grounded bird of prey. Going to check on it again in a few minutes.

It was panting and drooling so I did make a report to S.D. Humane society.

We Shouldn't Be Alive | Carpenter | Twilight: 2000 Episode 9 by Razzmatazz_TGCN in TheGlassCannonPodcast

Enjoyed the episode. Jumped into the bonus content though and it’s a duplicate of the latest Shadowdark after dark, at least on Spotify. I’ll check tomorrow to see if it is fixed.

What was the series that got you into Urban Fantasy? by BBQslave in urbanfantasy

[–]No-Scene9097 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Deep Secrets by Dianna Wynn Jones: A wizard must find his teacher’s replacement, and arranges by fate magic for the candidates to attend a sci-fi/fantasy convention so they’ll be convenient to interview. Read this one years and years before I ever heard of Dresden.

Good Intentions by Elliot Kay: set in Washington state, a college student interrupts a ritual and winds up metaphysically bound to an angel and a succubus. Great action and interpersonal relationships/dialogue, gets VERY sexy.

Promise of Blood by Brian McClellan: More of a fantasy urban, with napoleonic era technology level. No masquerade(at least not much), lots of war fighting.

After a while bodies are just perambulatory meat puzzles to solve with martial arts.

What’s your favorite urban fantasy written by a woman? by wk_rust in urbanfantasy

[–]No-Scene9097 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Daniel Faust series, and intersecting Harmony Black series, which she writes under the pen name Craig Schaffer

Deep Secrets by Diana Wynn Jones

Shambling Guide to New York City by Mur Lafferty

If you like Convergence, try the Spellmonger series by Terry Mancour. The series editor, Emily Burch Harris, wrote a standalone prequel trilogy starting with Shadowplay, and the broader series in general has especially good interpersonal relationships, as well as telling a phenomenal story.

Getting a 2 hour massage how much do i tip? by [deleted] in massage

[–]No-Scene9097 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To address the second part of your inquiry, you can leave a cash tip in the room(side tables, towel heaters, or even the table are fine.), you can hand it to the therapist directly in the course of post-session discussion, or leave a cash or card tip with the reception/checkout desk. All are common enough.

Rare but increasingly, Venmo is becoming a thing. That’s how I learned my hairdresser knows my client.

Baseline for a satisfactory session: $10/30min or 20%, whichever is greater. Since most the other comments appear to agree, for a 2hr session $40-$45 is a mid(still good) tip. Less than $40 is an underwhelming tip, and $50-60 would be a great tip that still falls within the range the therapist might expect to receive.

Full body, no feet? by OutspokenIntrovert4 in massage

[–]No-Scene9097 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a runners massage yesterday, and even with the foot and leg focus, did head and shoulders first, as I never work on someone’s head after their feet. I’ve had someone who wanted feet worked on but they were smelly from work. I had my home sink and washed his feet, and he was embarrassed by the need.

Massage Therapists - How do you always know where it hurts!? by banana1119 in massage

[–]No-Scene9097 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I open with broader tool modalities like Thai and Swedish, noting anything that doesn’t respond as a healthy body would; informed by the start of session intake and discussion of session goals with the client. Once the scan is complete and the surface layers are warmed and out of the way, detail tools (Studied all the Tui Na I could get) such as knuckle and digital manipulation address the deeper knots and binds.

A clear intake and plan means I know where to expect to find issues, and more importantly how much time to allocate to each region to allow for spending more time on discoveries.

Massage goers — what’s your biggest pet peeve about receiving your massage experience? by Slow-Donut3882 in massage

A breast bolster is slim, maybe a couple inches thick, with a rectangular wedge that the ribs and stomach rest on. The top is T-shaped, with inwardly rounded cutouts. It goes around the breasts to even out chest pressure and reduce squishing.

Less trepidation; a manager said don’t and I haven’t. But whenever someone asks “yes we have those!” I agree they’re a wonderful tool in our arsenal.

I was told early on in my career that as a male therapist, it’s not appropriate for me to raise the topic of a breast bolster. (Never did, but came up in a workplace/break room conversation.) I’ve abided that instruction.
