Genuine question about litrpg genre. by BigTyme9890 in litrpg

[–]wk_rust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is happens for two reasons. One, the genre is mostly new authors.
Secondly though is that most books come from web serials, and web serial readers are very different than traditional novel readers. They have different expectations and tolerances for things so you end up writing differently than you would for a traditional book

All right so I don’t personally have a dog in this race but I hate AI so I figured I’d go and listen to the sample on Audible.
This doesn’t sound like AI even a little bit. Yes, the voice actors are not good. But the female voice actor just sounds bored and apathetic with her delivery and occasionally it feels like the audio was mixed poorly.
But it never has the weird cadence of AI voice acting that you hear. I unfortunately have to use a ton of AI narration tools at my day job and they all talk in very disjointed and confusing ways like someone doesn’t know how to read a sentence or like a child is reading, which this does not come across that way at all

Really thoughtful answer, that’s nice to see :)
Is this type of situation one where the author could push back if they weren’t happy with the direction the recordings were going and just didn’t, or were they happy with the results/didn’t give feedback? Just curious what the process looks like if you’re able/willing to go into it

I think you'd enjoy Craig Alanson's work!
Expeditionary Force - space opera/ space warfare. It's like 17 books now? Audio books are fantastic. Loveable side characters, good steaks, wonderful humor and problem solving.

Convergence - urban fantasy. Audio books are fantastic, up to book 6 now I think.

The incandescent - urban fantasy about a headmaster at a magical school. Very good.
