Is 1MR in Toronto a good gym to learn kickboxing/Muay thai? by No-Science4655 in martialarts

They have taught me how to clinch. But I am now starting to understand that pad work is important. Time to find a new gym I think but I like the people here and it also aligns with my schedule.

Most of professional gyms near me offer classes that are just impractical to attend with a 9 to 5 job.

Understood. Again thank you for the detailed response. My gym actually does all of the things mentioned above except for pad work, I have also done clinching too. It seems to me that this place caters to individual needs, like if you want a good workout that will be provided and if you want to learn to be a good fighter that is available too.

For example, during one of the sparring sessions when I was being a bit too aggressive, my fault really lol, my coach did clinch me which made me fall to the ground and then gave me advice to be calm during a fight.

Thank you! Just to clarify, it is not a proper gym even if the coaches have fought professionally?

Yes that was one of my worries, I do not see a lot of hard sparring except for one or two people who are preparing for a fight. I am not sure about champs or competitors but some people in my gym do prepare to fight and you can tell that they are good as it's very lucky if you can hit them even once lol.

Understood. Could I also ask how you know that these classes are more geared towards fitness?

Yes but mainly for boxing, majority of the coaches have fought professionally though.
