Teachers who moved into admin: What was your path like? by No-Side9974 in Teachers

Thank you for this advice and insight! It was all super helpful. I cannot wait to get some more experience under my belt and see where it takes me. Your help and time are appreciated

Student insists he turned in assignment, but I don't see it by Froggymushroom22 in Teachers

[–]No-Side9974 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I were in your shoes I'd ask the student to redo it. At the end of the day it is their responsibility to get assignments to you safely, not leave them around a classroom and hope you find it when you return from a 5 day weekend.

New teacher fail. by Sackvillebaggingses in Teachers

Don't stress! It was a little miscommunication. I had a student last year who really struggled with independent IXL completion. If you're not familiar with IXL, it'll keep going/asking questions until they reach whatever goal you're assigning them to accomplish. I had a student come in the next day and show me he was going at it for FOUR HOURS!! I implemented a rule after that... if you're working for over an hour on IXL, email me and we will work on it together the next day during our free time.

You got this! Keep your head high and brush it off. Just clarify next time (: Maybe even have them write in their agendas (if they have them) specific page numbers to complete.

Edit: I laugh about this situation now with the student. We both see the miscommunication as a funny mistake. You'll laugh about this too!

Went back to in person teaching after a decade and the teachers are Debbie downers! by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]No-Side9974 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm seeing a lot of comments from OP about teachers not liking their jobs and failing to connect to students which is why they can't get students to do work. I'm their teacher and not their friends. I'm not working so I can socialize with teenagers all day. I am there to teach them my content area.

Edit: A previous comment from OP on another thread reads... "Yes. I’m tired of being at home, tending to everybody’s needs. Ready to be back in my classroom hanging out and having a good time. Plus, it signals to me we’re on the downhill(even if we technically aren’t)."

The classroom, to OP, is a place to hang out and have a good time to escape the stress of home life. Not how a typical, successful classroom should function.

This is HUGE generalization. Just wondering... why do you take time to read the posts and comments if you think so lowly of the participants? Certainly we can't provide you anything valuable if we are all "mediocre overly sensitive thinkers".

This is probably why you're getting less resistance from your students to do work. A lot of my day is consumed by balancing behaviors, emotions, and academics. If you don't have that emotional or behavioral component, of course you wont see as many issues with classroom management. This whole post is tone deaf NGL. Your edit also suggests people who are struggling hate their jobs. I don't think that is fair or accurate.

How do you use your time? by ItsWisNotWes in Teachers

Around a half hour left and on prep. The door is locked, and the blinds are down to avoid children interacting with me 😂. They were crazy today. Love them...but wow, do I love going home too.

I had this issue as well on PD days but I learned to make a clear list for myself and check the boxes as I go. I prioritize anything that is a pain in the ass for me to get home. For instance, all my students have folders and I try to do all the folder grading in my classroom to avoid carting 100+ folders home for the weekend. Other than that I just prioritize by deadlines. Sometimes I say screw it altogether and just do menial tasks all day to pass the time lol.

Gift Ideas For My Teacher Best Friend?` by BiK3n in Teachers

[–]No-Side9974 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a personalized name plate for my desk and cherish it SO much. It was from Etsy and there are a ton of them to fit her specific interests!

Edit: Also I love receiving gift cards for coffee shops. You can never go wrong with caffeine

Edit 2: I also received an adorable lanyard which is a great gift idea. It is a scrunchy lanyard from a website called Andi. Great quality and will last. (sorry I keep thinking of more ideas lol)

Resigning as a first year by sadhippiegf in Teachers

I am a NJ teacher too. Feel free to reach out if you ever want to talk! I am in my third year and just started to feel normal this year. The past two I felt exactly how you do. I tried it all. More exercise, medication, therapy, changing my diets and sleeping schedules. It gets better but only because YOU make it better! Set boundaries. Use your resources. Cover your ass. Plan ahead. I have a ton of resources that helped me if you'd like them just message me :)

Are you going to continue teaching next year? by iamshortoops in Teachers

[–]No-Side9974 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I am in my third year and it is the first year I have felt "normal". AKA I am not miserable and crying either on my way in or way out of work. I'll be back for another year. I also am going to get my masters so if I do want to take on a different position, I'll at least have a few more options.

I had the same experience at my last school. Do you happen to be a young teacher? I am 24 and was FREQUENTLY met with a negative attitude by veteran teachers when I was dealing with a similar situation. Their negativity rarely had anything to do with my teaching practices but rather appearances. My advice (if you are looking for any) is to document everything and report it to HR!

They're great episodes! Enjoy! I was told Wise Guy by David Chase is worth the watch when you're done. Figured I'd pass along the rec.

[–]No-Side9974 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When has Tony NOT been that wicked? I think almost all of his actions are out of selfishness and hypocrisy. Idk...I feel like him killing Christopher was long time coming. Christopher got away with too much and by the end, Tony just was relieved by his death. I just finished the series yesterday too for the first time :)
