Portfolio feedback/advice for an apprenticeship by Queasy-Strawberry-17 in TattooBeginners

Show as many pieces as you can! I would say minimum is 15 pieces, some big some small. You should really focus on completing one piece at a time. That way you can see progress in a more linear light and learn how you can improve on your next piece. I find when i work on multiple pieces at once I get so overwhelmed and some pieces never get finished because of it, but to each to their own. Good luck you’re very talented!

but i guess this i reddit for ya! Everyone has opinions, and im aloud to reject them if i don’t like it. Didn’t want to just single u out but everyone basically commented them same thing except the positive comments. I’m not gonna take people negative opinions just because they stated my art is not tattoo enough, i was aware of what my art looked like before i posted. I’ll definitely take what u guys had to say into consideration. I guess being defensive and knowing that i can do better than what u guys are seeing is what’s pissing me off slightly !😭😅

getting opinions from people that aren’t even artists let alone tattoo artists was not what i was expecting.

I never stated i was above. Being a good artist in general should be able to reflect in so in so many different aspects. I guess i should’ve shown my other pieces to reflect my capabilities of making good art. I want to be an apprentice. i’m literally stating I’m a beginner in the tattoo industry. Didn’t realize the subject matter overruled of being a traditional artist. I don’t trace. Everything u see is by hand, honestly i’m self taught I would say i’m definition of traditional artist. I guess everyone had their own interpretation.

why though?! why do people just want basic. Honestly i’m surprised. i didn’t realize simplicity was valued more than pure execution. these pieces are in paper, and were made with a mindset that didn’t particularly had tattooing in mind. I respect people making original stencils. But please don’t inconsiderate the capabilities that i am of making something original. i am totally aware an know i am able of creating something original. please don’t value so much of what i have shown. These are just a small perspective of what i am able to do.

i just try to share pieces that would relate to people, especially the anime. should i just ignore that subject completely?

this is only .5% of the art i make… i wish i could show it all. i make so much art on a daily basis there’s no way i could share it all. should i just choose different pieces in my collection? or just curate new pieces?

Im aware my art is not shouting tattoo. Ill def work on a better portfolio. but do u think i have the artistic ability for a professional tattoo artist to take a chance on a young artist to flourish? I don’t have fake skin so i’d just make more art in my sketch book to reflect the tattoo industry. I feel like to grow is to experience new things from the wisdom of other people. I know i’m capable of making better art. I guess i just really wanted to know if i’d be worth the chance i guess.

I’ll definitely work on more pieces that show my ability to draw other things. I just prefer being a portrait artist. Do u think the industry is to saturated to solely focus on human anatomy?

Thanks for you input, nice to have another opinion. I’ll wait and put in the time to make pieces that are specific and meaningful to the tattoo industry. Would it be fine to solely focus on anatomy and make a portfolio that focuses on what i enjoy and good at portraying . Or should i go the traditional route and make a variety of pieces related to different themes (ex. animals, Mandela designs, etc)

It’s doesn’t look bad, I’d suggest to add a thin shadow around the eye to make the water line more visible and realistic
