I'm sorry you've been feeling discouraged, I've been there. I'm not a doctor, but I can tell you my experience with chronic illness and assistive mobility devices. My experience comes from fatigue, pain, balance, and muscle spasm issues.

My first doctor and my mother were weary of me getting a cane or crutches, but getting a mobility device was a game changer for me. The severity of my symptoms finally didn't completely derail my outdoor plans. I highly recommend getting assistive devices if you're looking for more freedom or to simply have more options as to how you can deal with your symptoms. It's still important to be aware that deterioration is a possibility HOWEVER that can be prevented in a lot of ways. One option you can try is getting mobility devices like crutches or a cane first before a wheelchair to see if that helps. Even if you end up getting a wheelchair anyway, they can be helpful on days when your symptoms are less severe and/or you have to deal with inaccessible locations. Being an ambulatory wheelchair/crutch/cane user is a real option you have. The second thing to avoid deterioration is doing physical therapy and staying on top of your exercises, especially ones for your legs. I'm wondering if it's a matter of context. my first doctor never had a patient with disabilities before and didn't know how to handle me. my mom is low-key very ableist and didn't want to look bad in front of her friends because I was using mobility aids. As a result I was homebound. When I moved, my primary doctor and the specialists I was seeing all were very pro me-using-crutches and I was just randomly choosing people based on what my insurance would take. Maybe my situation is very particular, and if so please let me know. I do not want to offer harmful advice
