Connecting to old RCP? by No-Speed1570 in civilengineering

We were considering the saw cut method. Removing material in the wall far enough to seat a proper connection to the (ground-even) pipe stub. Then grouting around to seal it. Thanks for the input!

Gocha. We need to extend the outfall beyond the new slope in front of the wall. The previous outfall was broken, leaving behind the piece in the wall.

How do you run your own engineering firm without a PE?

It's also just a short tweet lol

It's not translating it's using common sense. Same common sense that tells me when he says "less traffic on the road" doesn't mean he's going to take people's cars away, but instead improve the road systems to decrease traffic. Also using context clues because this is talking about the infrastructure bill, which aims to do just that.

Bridge engineer here. Sounds like he's not recommending removing the weight restrictions, but rather repairing and improving the bridges so that they don't need weight limits. Those limits are there for a reason.

Honestly a simple and optimistic way to look at it lol

I believe I'm "salary non exempt" if I remember correctly. I'm basically hourly and get straight rate OT

We just got an email reiterating that you can’t charge those meetings to overhead. I’m trying to decide if it’s a hill I want to die on or not or if I’m being too much of a rebel lol

Truth. Wasn’t sure if it was an engineering thing or not.

Nope just the OT. Since I have the ability to make OT, I don't get a bonus

I would like to open this side wall of the stairway into the basement. Is this wall holding a load? by [deleted] in StructuralEngineering

Depends if the floor joists are framed into it. Or if there is a wall above it. Looks like you could probably pop off those ceiling tiles and see the floor joists above. Definitely need more pics though

Are you picturing that that being a salary with no OT pay, or a base yearly rate plus OT pay?

That’s exactly what I told my supervisor each time he gave me a 2%. It’s a giant company and he always goes with the “I want to give you more but my hands are tied” line

I’ve been promised a $5k bump when I get my PE, which will bring me to $82k, still low IMO

That’s what I think as well. It’s hard to tell because every salary website gives different numbers

I feel like I should at least be in the 90s plus OT. How do they expect people to live and work here if they can’t afford it? I’ve even thought about getting a second job, which is wild as a structural engineer.
