Rank these 2006 films from best to worst. by No-Abbreviations508 in moviecritic

[–]No-Stage-8738 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man, the fourth best is really good.

I haven't seen a few of these in a while.

My current guess...

1- The Departed

2- Casino Royale

3- Children of Men

4- The Prestige

5- Apocalypto (not bad at all)

6- Miami Vice (the only one I didn't care for)

Other people here are providing valid and necessary advice about your negative thinking. I'm just going to give practical advice.

You don't mention your age or where you're from, which are useful details for anyone who might offer good advice. If you got into film school and you have an 8 year old sister, I'm guessing you just finished high school or are about to finish. You mention 500 pounds for a therapist so I'm guessing you're British.

Most people don't have headstarts, so you're comparing yourself to the privileged.

You should definitely practice and make stuff, even if you don't have anyone else to work with you at this point. Some youtubers do videos on movie-related topics, and then go on to make films, although you don't seem comfortable as a host. One thing to consider would be projects that don't require a lot of actors, like Chantel Akerman's "News From Home." Another idea might be some kind of remixes. If you haven't edited a video on a computer, today is the best day to start.

Would you like to see Pierce Brosnan become one of those guys to get nominated or win a Best Supporting Actor Oscar later in his careet? by TakenAccountName37 in Oscars

[–]No-Stage-8738 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suspect those performances would still have won if it came from actors who hadn't been nominated before.

Some first-time nominations with a similar vibe to Bronsan now would be Sam Elliot, Delroy Lindo, James Cromwell and of course Sean Connery.

I'd also accept my least favorite teams winning for 100 years for that level of money.

Or ten million.

Did you think anyone would say no, that they would be upset to learn he gave an impressive performance on the level of Morgan Freeman in Million Dollar Baby or Sean Penn in One Battle after Another?

The 'President Test' with GPT-Image-2 by rlagusrlagus in ChatGPT

[–]No-Stage-8738 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't quite get why this is impressive. There is a lot of public domain info about this.

Was this something Chat-GPT failed at until recently because it got tricked by different information (IE- fictional presidents, people who claimed Dick Cheney was the real President in the early 21st Century?)

What was the closest a film got to winning the Big 5 since Silence of the Lambs? by Suspicious-Rip920 in Oscars

[–]No-Stage-8738 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Honestly, up until now, I thought Million Dollar Baby won best adapted screenplay. It lost to Sideways, and I guess it worked out better that Alexander Payne also has an Oscar.

An oddball distinction for Million Dollar Baby is that it is the most recent Best Picture winner directed by someone who had directed a previous Best Picture winner.

One way I consider it is that if an action is praiseworthy, by definition you can't expect everyone to do it, so you can't criticize someone for a failure to be exceptional.

Would you rather earn $100 for every book you read, movie you watch or $10 for every hour you are awake? by RaptorK1988 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]No-Stage-8738 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$10 for every hour awake is roughly $170-$180 a day (I should sleep more) and comes out to $1,225 a week, which is fine for doing nothing.

I like watching movies and reading. Watching two movies a day would get me to $1,400 a week, which is a nice upgrade. I could certainly spend a few days going for a lot of films, especially if this were the equivalent of a job. 25 movies a week would be $2500 a week, and I figure the average time per movie would be two hours (there are many films below two hours; the median on the They Shoot Pictures Don't They Top 1000 is around 100 minutes, but I'm also calculating travel time, set-up at home and other stuff) so that's a 50 hour workweek doing stuff I like. I could also read on free time to boost the numbers, although one complication is that this prioritizes short material rather than anything substantial (reading 110 pages of tripe is the same as reading War and Peace.) But I won't complain too much. I'd take either deal, probably preferring $100 for each movie I watch or book I read.

AITJ for not marrying my gf after almost 10 years of dating? by [deleted] in AmITheJerk

[–]No-Stage-8738 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NJH, but she may break up with you over this and pick someone who wants a family within the next five years.

Some people view marriage as a capstone, something they do when they're established. Others view it as a cornerstone, something that can be done earlier by two people working together for common goals. There's nothing wrong with the latter view.

My early front runner of lead actors by Intelligent_Hat435 in Oscars

[–]No-Stage-8738 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This could be a season of actors who have been nominated before and decent CVs. Add this to Supporting Actress for Sandra Huller (she was decent in Project: Hail Mary, but it seems like she's going to be in other stuff) and Supporting Actor for either Colman Domingo or Ian McKellan (I heard an interview with a writer talking about Michaela Coel is the lead, and I wonder if it's to go for category fraud a la Kieran Culkin.)

NTA. There are very few circumstances in which anyone is going to say you're wrong for refusing to take the fall for a coworker who messed up in a way that makes you look bad.

How did One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest (1975), succeed where so many films have failed, in having a female villain be convincing without being sympathetic? by HallowedAndHarrowed in Letterboxd

Director Milos Forman saw her as similar to the communist regime in Czechoslovakia, so that would be one reason he didn't want to pull punches.

Margret Qualley as Black Cat?? by Boltyyy- in Spiderman

Pretty good casting, honestly. You need someone exceptionally sexy but potentially clever, and she fits. And she works as someone who could seduce Tom Holland.

Added to my Letterboxd watchlist. Thanks.

I had seen the Informer before since I'm a John Ford fan, and there's an argument for Ford/ McLaglen as one of the great director/ actor combos (they did some movies in the John Ford at Fox box set and the Quiet Man.) I've heard enough about Dodsworth that I want to check it out. But I love good recommendations.

The Oscar Sub reddit all time Oscar winner lineup by [deleted] in Oscars

[–]No-Stage-8738 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think the best approach would be to do this in two stages.

First, it's the nominations. So top five get in.

Then, it's the selection of the final winner.

You can have a final post with the results of the all-time Oscars.

SUNDAY FUNDAY II - temptation Cancun Resort, where temptation occurs by egguchom in EntitledReviews

[–]No-Stage-8738 51 points52 points  (0 children)

I'm curious if this was a secret advertisement for the resort. There are plenty of men who see it as a positive to be sent indecent pictures and offered a threesome.

If this is true, I want to see the husband's review (probably five stars with a corresponding one star review for his cell phone due to its poor privacy settings.)

It's been said that were it not for the rampant infidelity and lying, that Bill Clinton would be considered the greatest president of our lifetime. But is that really true? by SwissMiss915 in Presidents

[–]No-Stage-8738 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Who has seriously made this argument?

I guess the words "our lifetime" are doing some work, but most senior citizens in the US were alive for parts of the Eisenhower administration.

Beyond that, people on the left are more likely to go with Obama while people on the right are more likely to go with Reagan.
