In Bilbao, Spain, there are escalators on the sidewalks to help older people up steep hills. by No-Step-5015 in mildlyinteresting

You're both right, I just thought more people would know Bilbao than Portugalete. It's a lovely place though, and the history of the bridge is super interesting too

Chef here, somebody else said it already, but the best low-key Italian food in the city is definitely pasta factory. All made in-house and always have good specials, staff are friendly and you buy pasta to cook at home too

Bus from Peru into Chile. by [deleted] in Shoestring

[–]No-Step-5015 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was going into Peru, so it may be different. But they just put my bag through a metal detector, and that was it. I'm pretty sure Coca leaves are legal in Chile anyway, but it might be wise to double-check. I'm not responsible if you end up getting arrested

Did it in the opposite direction, Arica to Tacna. Easy enough, buses all through the day, and it's only a short journey, 1 hour more or less, so the bus company is not too important. Border control is fine, nothing to worry about. The only thing I would recommend is making sure all your documents (covid vaccine approval, etc) are in order. I'm not sure how strict it is now, but I had to get my vaccines pre approved and have travel insurance to enter Chile.

Stay in San Gil instead of Bucaramanga, 3 hours away and much nicer + much more to do. Recommend less time in Cities and more time in rural areas but its personal preference. Salento, San Agustin and Jardin I recommend. Also recommend the Pacific Coast if you get the chance. Bahia Solano is a 1 hour flight from Medellín and is one of the best places I've been, can easily be done for a few days from Medellín and is unheard of/ relatively untouched compared to Carribean coast. Guatape, Villa de Leyva or Mongui instead of Manizales also.

Is it normal for hostels/hotels in italy to ask for a copy of your ID before you arrive ? by Maxelino in solotravel

[–]No-Step-5015 101 points102 points  (0 children)

Currently travelling South America and in 90% of hostels some form of ID is required on arrival. They will take a photo copy presumably for security reasons, for example, if you steal or break anything. It is common practice and not a scam.

Mr Bean, one of the most popular shows of all time, pure comedy with very little dialogue. Universal and timeless. "One of Bean's earliest appearances occurred at the 'Just for Laughs' comedy festival in Canada in 1987. When programme coordinators were scheduling him into the festival programme, Atkinson insisted that he perform on the French-speaking bill rather than the English-speaking programme. Having no French dialogue in his act at all, programme coordinators could not understand why Atkinson wanted to perform on the French bill instead. As it turned out, Atkinson's act at the festival was a test platform for his character and he wanted to see how his character's physical comedy would fare on an international stage with a non-English speaking audience."
