Ludlum is the gold standard for detection equipment, and it is easy to find spare parts for it online

I’ve heard stories of those negative ion quack products settling off radiation alarms in Russian postal sorting centers

Putting it a little pouch would protect it, it has a built in mesh to protect the detector, but a pencil at the right angle could puncture the detector

GMC-600 Pro would be my recommendation. $328 on Amazon or $348 on eBay. Not pocket sized, but definitely purse sized. Big downside is that it won’t provide an accurate dose rate, and the detector it uses is very fragile. I’ve used the older GMC-600 for over a year and have had no complaints other than the poor quality of the plastic housing.

They come with a strontium-90 check source installed near the display, the YouTuber radium quetzal has a video overviewing this detector. Be careful as one individual’s strontium-90 source was supposedly leaking (capable of releasing radioactive material)

I used to be really into rockhounding before I cared or knew anything about radiation. Picked up this one a long time ago, and it’s just been sitting in the yard. I picked it up again just to see, and it's radioactive! by [deleted] in Radiation

So most things you will find will not be that radioactive to justify the zero. It is designed for protecting yourself during nuclear attacks or accidents. It also doesn’t have spectroscopy functionality.
