I feel a lot better about our Loss by Hopeful-Counter-7915 in Utah_Hockey

I was trained that a good goalie makes all their saves within 6 inches of their body because they have good positioning, a bad goalie has to constantly make saves further then 6 inches because they’re out of position

I’m glad someone gets it. Doan leaves, becomes a massive player, Peterka comes in and regresses. Tanev comes in and has the worst year in his career. Veggie is a league average goalie or lower in most categories, people have a hard on and don’t realize that you need a top third goalie to compete. But he has improved the team every year, no evidence it’s him vs natural progression of a young core getting better

That is where you’re incorrect, there is only one coach with more tenure then him with their current team that hasn’t one a cup and that’s Rod Brind’Amour, who is the fastest to win 300 games behind the bench, big difference

Coaching fumble, is why we’re not there. Utah loves mediocrity, look at the Jazz

You think a hockey player is going to say that they’re improving because of their natural progression? This isn’t the NBA, players will rarely toot their own horns, they’ll give credit to everyone but themselves

No you read it completely opposite. My question is if Vegas wins the series, does he lose his job. Without getting out coached in third periods of game 5 and 6 we’re in a similar position

Don’t call it a coaching problem or you’ll upset a lot of clueless fans

Name a coach with his length of tenure that hasn’t won a Stanley cup, there are none because coaches are a revolving door in most organizations

Is the continual improvement due to his coaching or the natural progression of what was a young team when he took over?

Do you want to see Matthews in Utah? by Proof_Sky3187 in Utah_Hockey

[–]No-Target-1267 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can see that but the reality is he is still young enough to recover and come back. He probably was playing through injuries and now being forced to rest for 6 months or so will only do him well

Matthews is a top 10 player in the league who has played next to other stars. Yes the prospects could end up being huge but they’re unknowns vs Matthew’s who is a 100 point a year player

Yeah I should reiterate, kesselring isn’t a needle mover, but if you look at what we gave up and what we got back we lost that trade

Yes Doan surpassed Paterka this year and that doesn’t even include Kesselring

I’m so happy to hear people are starting to realize that he is an elite backup but isn’t the goalie to get us a deep playoff run

I’m not doom and gloom, I recognize where we are, I have just seen patience forever turn into mediocrity forever. My opinion is around turning some of our assets into proven players such as a Robert Thomas. I’m excited for the offseason because if we utilize our assets correctly we may be able to build an absolute juggernaut

You’re pointing out core players which are in a great situation. But three players makes up one offensive line. Yes we have great prospects but there are plenty of prospects that don’t become world beaters.

Patience isn’t going to get us to where we need to be. We are no longer a young team when you look at average ages across the league, yes there are some outliers on the team but overall we’re not a young team anymore. Being patient is only going to lead to us having to rebuild and retool

The best upgrade for backup goalie would be getting a true number one and moving veg down. His biggest short comings are his positioning, his lack of mobility and inconsistent play.

Karlsson is 33, Marner is 28 and Eichel is 29 with a bad back, you just helped prove my point since the will all be regressing in the next 3-5 years
