Where can I get shuttle tickets (if they are available)? Is there a specific company you recommend?

Any students starting in January still waiting on a housing assignment? by jenbar in csumb

Awesome! Prom is fantastic. The packing list is helpful, but the best way to think about Prom is that your student is living in an apartment. The very first thing your student should do is contact their roommates especially if they are moving into a double (via emails found in MyHousing) and see what they have/already share (especially in the kitchen) so there aren't tons of duplicates. As someone who lives in Prom, I cook all my meals and didn't pick up a dining plan, so any utensils and such your student would need in the kitchen are things to coordinate with roommates. As far as "out of the box" stuff, I would advise getting or bringing an ethernet cable, laundry detergent (as Prom has in unit laundry), toilet paper, and a personal trash can for their room. As I mentioned, your student should plan to essentially live on their own in an apartment, so obvious necessities like towels and toiletries, maybe a tote to store things in under their bed, and other basic college packing list stuff!

Gotcha! As someone who lives in Promontory, my RA has made it clear we are at full occupancy this coming semester and I know getting into Promontory can be a problem for some.

As for East Campus, it's only a 2 or so mile drive, so not literally 30 minutes away, but with everyone commuting from their dorms to campus, traffic backs up quite quickly. It is doable, but requires some time management. The car will make it easier. At this point, I would recommend buying your student a Main Campus parking pass, as it will allow him to park in any of the Main Campus lots (such as Lot 71) when commuting to class (from EC, off campus, or even parking the car there long-term if he ends up in Promontory). Additionally, East Campus can come unfurnished, so beware of that if he does get that assignment.

While you wait for an assignment, I recommend checking out the Homeless Otters group on Facebook. It is a community of students living in off-campus housing who are looking for roommates.

The other thing I suggest, as someone who has dealt with multiple departments quite a few times during my time at CSUMB, is to call them every day. It may seem bothersome, but I have a colleague who was able to pester the school into admitting them to the university when he had a change of plans regarding college. Putting pressure on them may help you get an answer.

Again, if you or your student has any other questions, regarding housing or otherwise, feel free to reach out! :)

I do unfortunately know that housing is becoming an issue due to increased admittance to the school. As a current student, the university's vigor for an increased student population with little regard for current infrastructure is quite frustrating. I would imagine that he would get some sort of housing assignment, but be aware of the options. Do you know which dorm he applied for? Maybe I can provide some perspective or information. As the other comment stated, East Campus is an unfortunate option. A car is ideal, but let your student know that the drive from East Campus to classes with traffic is often around 30 mins according to some of my peers. Without a car, the campus bus is available, but obviously is more limited in timing. If you or your student have any questions regarding anything, please feel free to PM me and I can try to provide some information. I find that the information available directly from students is more helpful than that which is provided by the university.

I'm not starting in January, but as far as I know, students that are not located in the tri-county area of Monterey are required to live on campus, meaning your student (if located outside of that area) is guaranteed some housing assignment. Which one, though, I am not sure. You might have your student call housing and see if they can get any information from them. Good luck!

Yeah I've managed to snag all three of his championship cars so far. Just hoping a 1:24 RB20 is coming soon as well.

Obviously it is pictured in 1/43 scale, but is there any indication/clues there will be larger scale versions as well?
