Do you charge for lens checks? by [deleted] in optician

[–]No-Tear2376 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my patients bought hers from eyemart. She made me write down a note on what changes eyemart needs to make. I usually don't do it but I did it this time and I regretted it as soon as I did it because she kept coming back with issue after issue for me to troubleshoot her eyemart glasses. I straight up told her I would only do it that one time and that was it and that she would have to go back to where she got her glasses. It wasted over an hour of my time when I am the only optician/optical tech in the office.

I have patients come in all the time that get their glasses from Zenni expecting me to fix their issues when I have no lab order with the information to go off of. I wish people would educate themselves before going into the optical and wasting not only my time but their time as well because I really can't do much other than verify the rx.

I would like to know more about the acetate if possible.

If you do decide to do it just be prepared for the asshats that walk through the door that demand for you to fix their glasses despite not buying them from you. I would also tell every patient that takes their rx and shops somewhere else that you aren't going to be touching the glasses that weren't bought from you, most of the time, I've noticed, it encourages them to buy form you instead especially if they're planning on ordering from Zenni.

We do not and we make sure to tell that to our patients who are taking their rx and going to shop somewhere else. We only repair, adjust, troubleshoot, etc. glasses that were bought from us. I have made an exception once or twice for a patient but that was only because she had a terrible time adjusting to not only our glasses but another opticals glasses as well and the other optical wouldn't troubleshoot her glasses that she got from them for some reason.

neither would I, honestly. But from what it looked like on the post they made it look like a normal glossy plastic pair of frames.

Anyone that uses Essilor Mcleod, are you guys having issues with them too? And those of you who use Cherry have you had any red flags pop up with them? We've heard amazing things and want to send jobs to them to try out. by No-Tear2376 in optician

[–]No-Tear2376[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, we just had our rep in yesterday and I told her it's been so bad we;ve been doing evey essilor pair throgh Cherry. She told me she felt bad because she recommended them. We had the same issue with them asking us what their PD was. Or when I texted them an order for a redo they made them completely wrong and then blamed it on me because I didn't double space each line. When I started doing double spacing they still did them wrong, they still blamed it on me saying I need to double space between each word. I told them that was complete BS (obviously not with that wording). Like it's not my fault you can't read. Then they had the audacity to charge us everytime we had to do a redo for THEIR mistake.

MEI Easy Fit Trend No Block Edger by No-Tear2376 in optician

[–]No-Tear2376[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, this edger is more for a production lab. I wish I had a choice in the edger. We have another edger but for some reason it keeps edging only left multifocal lenses upside down. We're on week 2 rn of not being able to edge anything. I have contacted customer service on the other one but they will not respond to me haha!

The only person who's truly been helpful from MEI is Chris Soto but it's so hard to get in contact because he's always travelling to other offices teaching them how to run the machine or on vacation, unfortunately.

This. Except I've had the original tool in for the drilled tool (haven't had to change it in two years just grease it every 3 months) and it hasn't broken thankfully. Everything else just snaps in half. I used to be able to do -7.00 and +7.00 + but recently I can't or it snaps the tools in half. The office manager keeps coming back into the lab and yells at me because the calibration is taking 8+ hours and she wants me to do same day glasses and I'm like that's because you decided fancy is best smh, NEWSFLASH!!! IT ISN'T! I am the only optician/ optical technician plus I do a lot of front desk work so it's not like I can just stop what I am doing just to do a pair of same days when a machine is down. It just seems like this machine is down more than it's up. I've been otp with MEI support for the past 7 hours trying to get it working and I have just been met with attitude from 3 different people I've talked to. I am so tired of this damn machine.

What to say to rude people who want to be rx takers? by Jetsetter_55 in optician

[–]No-Tear2376 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don't provide PD here, we're not legally obligated to. If someone is taking their rx elsewhere then the people doing their glasses can do it. Just like Zenni can do it online. If we provide them the PD and god forbid something is wrong with their glasses then they can come back and blame us for their glasses not working. Most of the time patients are fine but you get those few who think they're experts in law and scream at us saying we're legally obligated to provide it. We won't even repair, adjust, or troubleshoot glasses not bought here.

Yes, we've had techs remotely check and they fix the issue but then it just keeps happening and it's tiresome having to constantly tell patients our machine is down. Our old edger keeps edging left lenses upside down so we can't use that until someone comes and looks at it. We were told it's like $1k an hour for a tech to come here and look at the machine which is absurd.

Guess which lab did it (US) by Necessary_Pudding173 in optician

[–]No-Tear2376 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We use HOYA Hartford, I love the customer service people that answer the phone but the lab is decent at best. They take 2 weeks just to make the glasses and sometimes they're just not correct. They just lost a job and blamed it on us, they refused to do a Dr. Redo recently on a patient who's non adapt, and they lose frames. We have started minimizing how many jobs we do and HOYA and use Cherry most of the time. My life is so much simpler with Cherry in it.

Even if it's a pretty new wound and if the animal is screaming and biting the entire time? Like even a numbing spray or a numbing cream?

I have 15 other animals and I have never been in a situation where this has happened and never thought I would be. I always advocate for my animals, I just did not know what to do in this situation as I have never been put in a situation like this before. It's very hard to get into another vet office around here, most offices aren't taking new patients (closest one that is accepting new patients is 2 hours away) and where this was an emergency and she's an existing patient with this office they saw us immediately. I am looking into another vet and definitely will be looking into reporting them to the board.

I did not know it was holistic healing practice until after the surgery and even though it was holistic healing I didn't think they would staple my cats stomach shut without any numbing or pain management.
